Five people have reportedly died after consuming locally-made alcohol, also known as Ogogoro in Imo State.

The tragic event happened in Imerienwe community of Ngor Okpala local government area of the state, at a popular drinking joint of one Uwadiegwu Eze, on Thursday.

The deceased persons include: Friday Osuji, 70; Adanna Iheanacho, 60; Daniel Nwosu Jnr. 45; Ifeanyi Njoku, 31; and Benjamin Okoroafor.

A community leader, Agbara Emma, said that the victims started complaining of stomach bite few minutes after taking the Gin and by Saturday the story changed.

The community leader added that Chinonso Amadi, Nnadi Ike, Udoka Ukaegbu, Fineboy Ekeocha, Chiaka Ukaegbu, Onyemauche Igbo, Aboy Amadi, among others, survived after taking the gin.

The shop owner who is now on the run, added a high quantity of methanol into the locally made alcohol in order to make more profits.
