Preparations for the kick-off of the third edition of the Lagos/MTN Street Soccer Championship has reached advanced stage with the State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola expected to kick-off the championship today at the Campos Square Mini Stadium, with plans already concluded for the live broadcast of the opening ceremony.

This much was disclosed by Commissioner for Youth, Sport and Social Development, Prince Ademola Adeniji-Adele at the unveiling of “Live The Dream”, the State’s 2010 Sports programme at LTV, Ikeja, Combo Hall on Wednesday.

The championship that has over 1,000 streets registered to participate, will be played in over 57 pitches across the state will see Lagos Television boardcasting the opening match live not only on the local sation but also on SuperSports where LTV has a channel .
He stated that a Local organising committee, LOC has been set-up in all the Local Governments and the Local Council Development Area, LCDA’s for easy organisation of the championship, adding that after the preliminaries where two streets will emerge to represent the Local
government Area, the championship will go into the group stage to be played in eight centres across the state.

The Championship  will attract N5 million as price money for the winner, while the first and second runners-up will get N3 million and N2 million naira and consolation price for the 4th placed team.

He also revealed that as part of efforts to encourage the participating teams, all the first three teams will go a trip to South Africa for 12 days during the 2010 World Cup to watch the Super Eagles group matches.
