Its citizens lived a better life at the time....

First things first, gadafi is not African, he is arab; so that discredits the fact that he is the greatest African leader. If only African leaders were leaders that values, respects, and appreciates African people and the resources on African lands, nobody will be talking about some arab invaders on African soil. It is also arguable that libya supported boko haram like they supported the wars in Liberia, Sierra leone, Congo, and many other African nations. In conclusion, Gadafi is a fake, a maniac, a racist, thinks he is smarter than black Africa, was a danger to African peace, a coward, and definitely not an African.
