Aganga is no Lagosian. Give him the Edo State slot and appoint Musiliu Obanikoro into the Lagos State slot, or Jonathan and PDP will lose real support in Lagos.

AC/Tinubu will be voted out in 2011, no matter what happens. Mark my words. PDP can either benefit from that or lose out. The choice is theirs. In the meantime could discerning Nairalanders please read section 147(3) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and tell me what they think it means in this context. Bear in mind as you do so, that Aganga is of ethnic Edo stock, and is therefore not an indigene of Lagos State:

147(3):
Any appointment under subsection (2) of this section by the President shall be in conformity with the provisions of section 14(3) of this Constitution:-

provided that in giving effect to the provisions aforesaid the President shall appoint at least one Minister from each State, who shall be an indigene of such State.

This is a slap on the faces of the Aworis, the Eguns and the Ijebus that are indigenous to Lagos state. WE WILL NOT FORGET OR FORGIVE!!!

@felele

Lagos was founded by the Edo empire, so you just might be an an Edo man. grin grin grin grin
The big question is, who is an indegine of a state or town? Is it the people who happened to have migrated there 100 years ago, 300 years ago or those simply born and bred there and who know the place as home?

What section of the constitution are they quoting?

The Constitution says cabinet must reflect Federal Character, not sure it says how candidates should be appointed from each state.

This people talking about Aganga's indigeneship have not whether there is no evidence that Aganga was not born in Lagos or Whether there is no link whatsoever between Aganga and Lagos.

If there definition of Indigeneship is based on where Aganga's parents are from, then they simply misread their constitution based on perceptions rather than what the constitution actually says.

@mikeansy: Given the level of your discourse on these pages, I have to conclude that someone stole your handle to spew this rubbish above, considering that my original post actually reproduces and refers clearly to the relevant section of the constitution - s147(3).

Moreover, I challenge you to show me where the constitution actually defines indigeneship. In the absence of such definition, REASONABLE PEOPLE would not argue with a language or geneological test for indigeneship. So, for instance, where the clear custodians of the tradition of an area are able to identify a person as an indigene, by reason of geneology, no one would argue with that. So, a letter from the Baale, Oba or Oloye of the particular locale being claimed should suffice, buttressed, where doubt remains, by the ability of the individual to speak the local dialect intelligibly to native ears, for further evidence of indigeneship.

To the best of my knowledge, no court in the land has yet defined indigeneship, and this may well be the first test case for this long needed definition.

Read it. It's there in black and white.

Shouldn't the post go to the most qualified person? I have a problem with post in government to be reserved for particular groups. It doesn't matter if the man is Yoruba, Bini, Ijaw, Hausa, Idoma etc, the post should go to the most qualified person. This system needs to be completely overhauled.

Until it is, we must play by the extant rules. Unless of course, you are willing to give a Lagosian the ministerial slot for your state, based on him being resident there for 15 years. We must demonstrate our ability to live by the rules, or else, chaos will prevail.

If Aganga is allowed to take the Lagos State ministerial slot, PDP can kiss Lagos State goodbye for ever. There is a chance they could win in 2011, on the back of the strength of feeling against Tinubu, and his increasingly compromised successor, Fashola.
