Before I begin, this post isn't meant to spite any individual or group. It's only meant to showcase funny translations of names and words from other tribes to Igbo. Don't take it to heart.

Please don't ever ask for the interpretation of your name in Igbo language because you might not like it (NwaAmaikpe, 2017).

I got 1 to 36 of them from a very funny albeit negative character on Nairaland (NwaAmaikpe). The remaining ones were included by me. By the way, feel free to list Igbo names that have negative translations in your dialect.

Names/words and translations:

1). Isiaka = Thumb
2). Olaitan = A threesômer
3). Yemisi = Give me 'head'(swallow my pride)
4). Olanisi = An oral sexér (One who sexés in the dark or a blind sexér)
5). Maliki = Understand the yansh.
6). Ndifreke = People who worshipped Pythons.
7). Olanike (Nike) = An Anal sexér (the buttócks)
8.). Ladoke = Screw a rat
9). Ememobong = I screwed a duck
10). Iziegbe= Gun head.
11). Azizat = Broom
12). Alaibi = Land of enlarged scrotums.
13). Ramotu='Drill my borehole'
14). Alanta= Small Brezz
15). Dauda= To sound very loud
16). Dapo (D'Banj)= To fail woefully.
17). Olaniyi= A good for nothing.
18). Tiwa = Shatter.
19). Ire = Tongue
20). Obusonjo= Full of ugliness
21). Osibunjo= stealing is a crime.
22). Buhari= carry it around, change it
23.) Maimuna= you don do me enuff
24). Amuneke= preek dey create
25). Amunike= preek and yansh
26). Imieke= Python's nose.
27). Hamza= Leave me alone and swell
28). Adamu= I failed (I have fallen down)
29). Awo= Frog
30). Babajide= Father hold.
31). Bukola= To have carried it all.
32). Efe= Clothe
33). Egueke = Python Dance
34). Anu = Meat
35). Zahra = Swollen
36). Aisha = All of us.
37). Apia = Leave him/her/it
38). Aina = Let's go home
39). Taye = Tear it open
40). Ideye = If you write it
41). Odafe = Odafu - he/she/it has fallen
42). Ogaga = Will he/she/it pass
43). Abubaka = flesh/meat from/of the hand
44). Abu = armpit
45). Ibori = The act of criminal (stealing) accusation
46). Egogori = You've purchased criminality (stealing)
47). Ogenevweta (ya) = S/he will continue to bring (it)
48). Ogenekaro = Drum is bigger/better than fart
49). Ogene = Type of drum or dance
50). Pere (ya) = Pray for (him/her)
51). Irene (ya) = You've sold (it)
52). Safiyya = Wash it off
53). Adaka = Chimpanzee
54). Salem = Sir, look at me
55). Eneuwa (Ene) = Earth's surface (Look)
56). Ochigbo (ha) = Laughter should separate (them) or ruler of the Igbos
57). Kafayat = What's his/her name
58). Jinodu = Yam, sit down
59). Unwanna = The world has gone
60). Oyinda = My friend, fall
61). Ibinabo = Two cases of Elephantiasis of the scrotum.
62). Babangida = Your father should fall
63). Abacha = Cassava flakes dish (also known as African salad)
64). Yakubu = It's what s/he is carrying
65). Halima = Make you no know na.
66). Iseoluwa = If you draw, it begins to work

These are the correct translations of a few in Efik/Ibibio language.


Ndifreke = I'll never forget.
Ememobong = The peace of a King.
Awo= Someone (otherwise called Owo)
Efe= An open space for activities.
Abu = Dust.
Unwanna = Brightness
