ASUU vrs. OTHER UNIVERSITY STAFF: Our Masters are Not Greedy.
Salient Points to Ponder:

In 2009, other University Staff Unions negotiated with Government and struggle for the payment of Monetisation Arrears without an input of ASUU. Yet, ASUU's members benefitted maximally. These other non-teaching Unions never even sparingly remarked that since the almighty ASUU was not part of the struggle, her members doesn't deserves to be paid.

In 2013, the administration of GEJ released 30B naira for Earned Allowances Arrears and this was shared to the Universities with the directives to each University's Council for subsequent disbursement to members of staff. ASUU members in over 90% of Nigerian Universities were paid 360,000 each in addition to the other components in the 2009 FGN/ASUU Agreement. This sum is for Occupational Hazard Allowance which was CLEARLY not in their Agreement but in the Agreements of other non-teaching Unions. These Unions allowed for the illegality which was to compensate for the junior lecturers that has nothing to benefit from the original ASUU's Agreement. This was overlooked by the non-teaching Unions in the spirit of industrial harmony and peace.

Now come 2017, ASUU went on strike for the honouring of their 2009 FGN/ASUU Agreement. They told the world that they were on strike basically for the improvement of the Universities and that it has nothing to do with salary or money. Eventually, a MoA was signed by ASUU and the FG.
Some weeks later, the non-teaching staff Unions equally went on industrial strike to press for the implementation of their Agreements. In fact, a 12-point demand was presented and an MoU was signed with the FG.
Consequence upon the above, the sum of 23B was promised by the FG and subsequently released on the 31st of October. But because the Masters (Oga) of the Universities, ASUU, that claimed salary/money was not a priority for their strike, first went on strike and therefore used that as a reason to lay claim to a larger percentage of 82% of the total amount!
Not minding of the fact that even if the money is shared at the ratio of 60:40, a junior non-teaching staff will go home with 180,000 and a senior non-teaching will receive 360,000 as arrears for a year while a professor will go home with 2.5M. Yet, it was seen as inadequate and therefore they lobbied for higher percentage ratio, seriously reducing the take home of all the non-teaching staff who they will later be working with in love, peace and harmony.
Our Masters are not greedy, they are only exhibiting the innate nature of typical Nigerians: oppressive and suppressive. Do they really care if their actions will lead to the sacrifices of industrial harmony within the work place?
