Thousands of staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from all the states of the federation and Abuja are expected to storm the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, from Tuesday to canvass the retention of Professor Maurice Iwu as the chairman of the commission.

The planned solidarity march for the boss of the electoral body, whose tenure is due to end in June, is coming barely three days after a similar one was organised at the premises of the National Assembly to pressure the federal government to extend his stay in office.

Information available to the Sunday Tribune suggests that the latest solidarity march would involve INEC staffs who are expected to arrive from all the states to participate in the three-day programme.

It was learnt that materials for the event such as branded T-shirts and other memorabilia with various messages in favour of Professor Iwu have already been produced and awaiting distribution for the march which would take the participants through various streets in Abuja.

A source revealed that the decision to organise the solidarity march was reached last Thursday at a meeting Professor Iwu held with some directors and national commissioners of the commission.

A notice made available on the notice board of the commission stated: "This is to charge the entire staff of the commission to show love to our able Honourable Chairman, Prof. Maurice Iwu, to give him support to continue to oversee the affairs of our noble commission till 2011 general election, in pursuit of credible, free and fair election come 2011."

"We are to use this medium to tell Nigerians who are unpatriotic and those who cannot survive in the seat of the chair of INEC for one day the following:

* To leave our chairman alone

* With him 2011 general elections will be successful

* He has made our democracy to see civil transition to civil transition

* To blame the system not Prof. Maurice Iwu

"These reasons are very comprehensible, because the chairman has done extremely well to make sure that Nigeria democracy is in the right track. Critics and enemies of democracy with their distasteful faces are going round through electronic media, newspapers and magazine and public places scandalizing the image of the greatest achiever as we all know and large number of patriotic Nigerians

"Let us join hands together and make this to be huge success for three days from Tuesday 30 March to Thursday 1 April 2010 from 10 am to 12 noon," it added.

Can they be real?
I found this to be embarrasing when i saw it on telly.
OR has money changed hands?
