Former president Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday, December 9, said the Peoples Democratic Party has become a reference point as Nigeria moves toward another election.

Jonathan made this known on Saturday, December 9, in Abuja, while delivering a goodwill message at the party’s national convention.

He said the party had over the years remained focused and resilient in spite of several challenges, adding that he believed the party would remain foremost in leadership.

According to him, ”The PDP is a party with an indelible history and principles, and expressed optimism that the party will remain at the forefront of leadership by example.

“Ours is a party with an indelible history and proven record on its tradition and we have been consistent in standing firm.

“PDP is the only party that from the beginning, we have not changed our name or our identity in any form, we do not change based on election cycle. PDP is the only stable party in Nigeria.’’

“Today is a unique day because we are going to elect leaders that will steer the activities of the party for the next general elections and we charge those that will win the election today to carry everybody along.’’

He, however, urged all leaders to remain committed to the purpose and work for the interest of the party and the country.

Jonathan commended the outgoing national caretaker committee for its leadership and doggedness, adding that it had provided energetic and purposeful leadership at a very critical and trying period in the party’s political history.

Also speaking, former vice president, Namadi Sambo charged the delegates to conduct themselves in a peaceful manner to ensure a free and fair election.

Sambo said he was confident that the delegates would elect “the right people to serve as leaders in the party.’’

Delegates are expected to elect 32 new executive that would lead the party in the next four years at the convention.

The former president made this known while addressing journalists after a visit to the Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike, at the government house in Port Harcourt on Sunday, December 3.

Yes, reference point for reckless looting, impunity, wastage, banditry and all that is wrong with Nigeria.

PDP remains the worst thing to have ever happened to Nigeria as an entity.

A party that had golden chance to turn Nigeria to a paradise on earth but instead chose to pauperize her and possibly auction it on ebay.

OBJ and Atiku started the looting and bribery. Yar'Adua owned up to his party banditry (he even agreed that the election that made him president was massively rigged) and was ready to right some of their wrongs but death took him.

GEJ, despite the overwhelming support he enjoyed to re-write history, he took all known evil and vices to unprecedented level. In his time, Nigeria earned what she had never dreamed of yet, he squandered the wealth through looting, stealing and wastages. Yet they want a Buhari to fix their rot of sixteen years in just 2.5 years.

In 16 solid years, PDP couldn't complete any notable project in Nigeria. If you doubt me, I challenge you to name a road or project started and completed by PDP in those sixteen years. Is it the 2nd Niger Bridge or the East-West road? Is it Benin-Ore road or Lagos-Ibadan road? Is it any Power Plant or Abuja-Kaduna rail line? We are talking of a party that couldn't even complete its own headquarters despite looting all that was "lootable"

And what did they leave behind after 16 years?
1. Depleted foreign reserves - $25bn despite earning hundreds of billion dollars from crude oil.
2. Empty Excess crude account which should have been close to $100bn by some estimate
3. Backlog of unpaid salaries to worker/pensioners both at state and federal level
4. Dilapidated infrastructures everywhere you go.
5. Weakened currency/economy due to import-dependent economy

And so many ills.

I have no doubt that PDP's effort to return to the presidency is one in futility.

Sane Nigerians are more than insane Nigerians to allow that madness.

I agree, PDP remains the reference point when corruption of unimaginable scale is being discussed. No reasonable person can even contradict this point.
