Between N-poower (n-build) And A Bank Job. by LKO(m): 6:19am On Dec 10, 2017 |
My friend is in a dilenma. I would appreciate your frank advise. My friend is about 33 years of age, he holds a HND in Civil Engineering. After service, he decided to open a barbing saloon due to lack of job. Fortunately, March this year, he was able to secure a contract job to work in one of the nation's commercial bank through an outsourcing firm. The pay is about sixty thousand naira. He is complaining bitterly that the job has no growth prospect coupled with the strenous nature of the job. He has handed his barbing saloon to a guy who balances him weekly. Luckily, he has be selected as a beneficiary of the N Build component of N Power. They may likely be resuming at their training centres by January next year. They would undergo training for three months, then they would be attached to firms for nine months for appretenceship. The stipend is ten thousand naira monthly for the one year, they would be given certificates and lots of work tools to enable them commence work after the programme. His job preference is electrical. He is really tired of the bank job. He wants to practice his Engineering career. His dream is to become project supervisor someday. Should he leave the banking job and go for the N power stuff? He is really confused. Candid advise would be appreciated. Please help. Apology for the long story. Thanks. 2 Likes 1 Share |

He should go for Npower and after two years come and open another thread of how he is now jobless...(pple just like next to free money) I'm not saying it's sure that he will be in the commercial bank for two years, but no matter what, he will gain experience, have small pension added to his name, have good job reference in case he wants to leave the bank. working for a commercial bank can be stressful I agree...but the benefits are also there...and u never can tell, growth can come from anywhere from the same bank or another company. Na God dey send help and give promotion. 26 Likes 2 Shares |

Is his head paining him? Why should he even think about npower at this stage of his life? You got a job offer of 60k and another job offer of 10k stipend for 2 years and you are asking which one should u go for? Eeezz like your friend has pledged not to enjoy good life àbi. Maybe he does not know the two jobs are both contract jobs. Since the npower has a 2year duration, it automatically qualifies as a contract job too. I believe most people who are doing npower are aware they don't have a permanent job yet, because it could easily be cancelled due to a change in government (don't ask me how I know, am a Nigerian and I've been around for a while and Ive seen how successive governments cancel the projects/brain child of previous administration) I advise your friend takes the bank job, the 60k will go a long way, and if he's a good guy who is friendly and got good people around him, some permanent staff who collect armed robbers salary may tip him once in a while(I do this once in a while for contract staff in my place, so i know it happens either in the bank or outside the banking sector). He would also be entitled to one or two other benefits like this December when gift are shared by management and suppliers alike, etc. All these he won't get from that yeye npower. What he should do on the job, he should live within his means, never try to dress to impress others thereby impacting negatively on his savings, he should network while on the job, he should learn as much as he can on the job, open a LinkedIn account and follow hr and top staff of some good companies, and watch put for opportunities bigger than the 60k with better working conditions. 20 Likes 1 Share |

Don't joke with money this Buhari period Get the bank job, work yourself out, get to know people and finally make some savings from the 60k However, if the pay from the barbing shop is good enough to sustain him, let him go for NPower and build up his career. You may never know, if he is good the place he does his internship may retain him with better pay with additional joy of practicing what he studied in school |

You clearly pointed out that he is confused, but I believe he already knows what to do. Whatever advice we give here has little or no effect on what choice he's going to make. Personally, I will stay with the bank and build a career in that field. |

Simple some thing, leave the two and face your barbing saloon since both jobs are contracts only the barbing is permanent. Btw for anyone interested I have one 3,500 coupon off, two 2000 coupon and one 1000 coupon all exclusive to Jumia 1 Like |
