The Vice Chancellor, Paul University, Awka, Venerable professor Uche Isiugo Abanihe has announced that the citadel of learning would on today, Monday, bestow a posthumous honourary degree on late Dr. Alex Ekwuemeke, the former Vice President of the country.

Ekwueme, who died in London hospital last month at age of 85, was a former Chairman, Paul University’s Board of Trustees.

Abanihe, who disclosed this in a press briefing, explained that the award was amongst the programmes scheduled for the institution’s third convocation ceremony.

According to him, “the Senate and the Governing council of the University equally approved award of honoring degrees to other few deserving and eminent Nigerians who have contributed immensely to the progress and well being of the university.

He said that the convocation ceremony would feature the award of first degrees, conferment of Degrees and presentation of prizes, among others to past students of the university.

The VC, while boasting that Paul University has continued to maintain standards of excellence put in place by its founding fathers, noted that their graduates have continued to make great impact on the society.

“We are graduating a total of one hundred and thirty-four students at the convocation. We are combining sets of graduates for the 2015/2016 and 2016/2017,” he stated.
