There has only been a slight difference in its data consumption.

Go to "msconfig" and stop all the apps you don't need.

I'm surprised you still experience it after metering your connection cos I haven't experienced it on metered connection.

You don't even need to turn off updates.

Also ensure you're not using bluetooth tethering cos metering doesn't work for any connection beside WiFi.

Perhaps your window was downloading updates before you metered but even At that, it will only prompt you to either continue or remind you later.

Try to create another ADMIN USER ACCOUNT and do all u have been told (stopping automatic update using gpedit.msc, metered data, turning off auto updates for ur apps etc).

I was experiencing the same problem too till I saw this (see the link above�) and applied it. Now I have so much control over my data consumption.


PS: If you're using a phone to tether Hotspot, you can further reduce the data consumption on phone by restricting background apps. That way, most of your data goes to your PC.

Sure, provided your system is accessing the modem's internet via WiFi.

my suggestion/solution

1. turn off auto update

2. turn off​ all live tiles

3. download a glasswire firewall app to restrict apps and processes going online

I have been away for sometimes now, I put ON the system this morning and I was getting a message that the window 10 OS will expire tomorrow that I should activate the product key.

Install and use it to restrict data usage by you computer.

Even if you disable automatic update and set metered connection, Windows 10 will still download updates it considers "important".

The app is your best bet.
