▫INCRA advises RVSG to show sincerity; demands a more humane approach to traffic Management.

The Inter-ethnic Network for Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, INCRA, describes the increasing traffic situation along major roads in Port Harcourt, particularly the Port Harcourt/Aba express way as a creation of Governor Wike's political exhibitionism.

Every keen observer would readily agree that the traffic condition on major roads in Port Harcourt has taken a downward slide in the last couple of months. This regrettable and avoidable situation has plunged road users and commuters into straits, sadly, government's actions and or inaction seem to be exacerbating the situation.

As a concerned Pan-Rivers group that feels the pains and pulse of the generality of Rivers people, we are saddened by this situation which is clearly artificial and a creation of politics. The prevailing traffic gridlock in the State is not unrelated to the flurry of superficial road construction projects intended to beguile unsuspecting members of the public into believing the government is actually delivering on the dividends of democracy.

The Governor's recent desperation to launder its image following growing factual concerns by a good number of citizens over government's recklessness and unlawful neglect of its duties of governance in preference for political gimmickries accounts for the make-believe emergency road repairs.

Even a novice would easily notice that the repair works on most of these roads are too menial and shallow to generate the kind of traffic build-up they are currently generating on our roads. Heavy earthmoving equipment are used to block traffic access roads for weeks just to create the false impression that serious construction works are on-going. In some situations, these artful deception makes the government go as far as resurfacing roads that are in perfect conditions just because these areas are more populated and would gain higher notice at the expense of other roads that are in deplorable and unusable State.

Undoubtedly, these vile artifice that has brought untold sufferings on road users is only intended to fox the public and gain traction for the Governor ahead of 2019. The Governor is obviously under pressure and is leaving no stone unturned in his bid to gain public validation.

We advice the Governor to free up the roads and channel resources to meaningful projects that will add value to the State and the masses.

INCRA,
Ubima, Rivers State.
