NOT true. Bethlehem is NOT a town in Nazareth. Bethlehem was in Judea while Nazareth was in Galilee.

I think what they meant by Jesus of Nazareth, meant Jesus the savior: messiah. Because Nazarene in Greek means messiah

A town is a saviour?

Nazareth was the town Joseph settled when he came back from Egypt after Herod died.

Jesus grew up there. That's where he was known

but in the book of John, Joseph never went to Egypt

John didn't record that doesn't mean he didn't.

Only John recorded that Jesus turned water into Wine, does it mean because Matthew didn't mention that, it didn't happen?

John was more into the divinity of Jesus, not his physical Ministry on earth.

Mark was more into His teachings using parables and how they relate to us his followers.

All of them didn't outlined exactly what happened to, with and by Jesus, the way it happened.

What Matthew missed, Luke, made up for.

Jesus is often referred to in the Bible as "Jesus of Nazareth," but why? Several reasons can be given. First, during the time in which Jesus lived on earth, people were often referred to by the town or city in which they resided. Since Jesus had spent most of His life in Nazareth, he was naturally known as Jesus of Nazareth.

Practically speaking, Jesus was a common name. Adding "of Nazareth" to His name would have made it clear which Jesus people had in mind.

Theologically, the first use of "Jesus of Nazareth" in the New Testament connects Jesus with the Jewish Messiah. John 1:45 reveals, "Philip found Nathanael and said to him, 'We have found him of whom Moses in the Law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.'" Jesus of Nazareth, son of Joseph, highlighted the fact that Jesus was Jewish in his origin. Though He had been raised for part of His childhood in Egypt, Jesus was born in Bethlehem (Matthew 1; Luke 2) to Jewish parents and was raised mostly in Nazareth, a Jewish town in Galilee.

The phrase Jesus of Nazareth may have also been used as a way to emphasize the humble background of Jesus. Nazareth was considered a lowly, despised town in Galilee. This explains the reaction of Nathanael in John 1:46, "Can anything good come out of Nazareth?" This "lowly" view of Nazareth also fulfilled the Old Testament predictions regarding the Messiah as despised and rejected (Psalm 22; Isaiah 53).

In some sense the first century Jews viewed the Messiah as being a Nazarene. Matthew 2:23 notes, "And he went and lived in a city called Nazareth, so that what was spoken by the prophets might be fulfilled, that he would be called a Nazarene." Though no single Old Testament prophecy specifically notes the Messiah as coming from Nazareth, the idea of the Messiah coming from a despised, lowly area was well understood.

Question: "Why is Jesus often referred to as Jesus of Nazareth?"

Answer: Jesus was referred to as "Jesus of Nazareth" for several reasons. For one thing, in Bible times people were often identified by their native area or place of residence. The man who carried Jesus’ cross when He was no longer able to, for example, was called Simon of Cyrene, noting his name and his place of residence (Luke 23:26). This distinguishes him from all other Simons and from all other residents of Cyrene who were not named Simon. Although Bethlehem was the place of Jesus’ birth, Nazareth was the place where Jesus had lived until He began His public ministry, and therefore He is said to be "of Nazareth."

Matthew 2:23 tells us that Joseph settled his family in Nazareth—after returning from Egypt where he had fled to protect Jesus from Herod—in order to fulfill “what was said through the prophets: 'He will be called a Nazarene.'" The words here are not found in any of the books of the Old Testament, and there has been much difficulty in ascertaining the meaning of this passage. Most commentators agree that the prophecies respecting the coming Messiah were that He was to be of humble origin and would be despised and rejected (Isaiah 53; Psalm 22) and that the phrase "he shall be called" means the same as "He shall be." When Matthew says, therefore, that the prophecies were "fulfilled," his meaning is that the predictions of the prophets that the Messiah would be of a low and despised condition and would be rejected, were fully accomplished in His being an inhabitant of Nazareth.

The phrase "Jesus of Nazareth" is first used in the Bible by Phillip who, after being called by Jesus to follow Him, told Nathanael, "We have found him of whom Moses in the Law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph" (John 1:45). By calling Him Jesus of Nazareth, Phillip may also have been making a statement about the lowliness of His birth. The character of the people of Nazareth was such that they were despised and condemned. Nathanael’s response, "Can anything good come from Nazareth?" (John 1:46) would seem to indicate such. To come from Nazareth, therefore, or to be a Nazarene, was the same as to be despised, or to be esteemed of low birth. The Messiah who would come to save His people would be "a root out of dry ground, having no form or comeliness" (Isaiah 53:2). He would be “despised and rejected of men" from whom men hid their faces and "esteemed him not" (Isaiah 53:3).

Jesus of Nazareth was born and grew up in humble circumstances, but His impact on the world has been greater than anyone ever born before or since. He came to "save His people from their sins" (Matthew 1:21), a feat that could be accomplished by none other than God incarnate.

Of the three religions central to that region, i.e. Islam, Judaism, and Christianity, only Judaism denies any spiritual significance to Jesus. Christians worship him as a divine being, i.e. son of God, and as Messiah. Muslims revere him as being one of the most important of God’s prophets, as Messiah, and as the bringer of scripture. Jews view him as a radical Jew, just another rabble-rousing orator, denying him any religious significance of any kind, not divine, not prophet, not Messiah, not scriptural.
