A valid reason for schools in rural areas. Kids don't even turn up on market days.

To city dwellers, this may mean nothing or depict lack of sense. Those who however reside in some of those communities know the value of this Gift.

Goats are prolific. Very. I heard once of an organisation in Yobe who in their bid to ensure children go to school empowered families with goats. The idea is that the kid, offspring of the goat are sold and the earning used to pay for school fees for these children. They don't have to do much to feed the goats. Household waste will suffice.

In some of those communities, the fee is 2,300 per term and their are parents who due to lack of this will never send their children to school.

Let's see the big picture. Those children have a better shot at being on nairaland tomorrow because they have a goat today.

Go children. Make us proud. One of them has the solution Fashola has failed to provide. Quote me.

besides, they are expected to rear the goats and the Goats will By His grace multiply.

Not a bad thing. This is a way to encourage the students to cultivate habit of animal husbandry. Idiots come here and all they see is goat meat, comment nonsense, and actually feel woke.

It is much less costly and much more rewarding to present them with books.

OP! You and those people condemning that school don't know jerk! Infact,I am beside myself with utmost sadness right now. Imagine. If only I had attended that school; I would have had a very big goat farm all to myself by now. All my 15 terms in that useless primary school in my town they kept giving me text books for coming first[14 consecutive terms!] Text books that pops could easily afford. I want to cry right now! NO,men don't cry. I won't vouchsafe to cave into the pressure. #SAD.

To me I feel they are giving them a sence of responsibility. They will learn how to take care of their property on time.

I don't see anything wrong here though. Thank God Christmas is around the corner. But after devouring the goat, what next? They shd v given something to make reference to in d nearest future alongside the goat.

I remember when I was in jss3 n I came home with 5th position. It wasn't funny as my dad was so furious n angry at me. Went as far as asking where I got my own brain from cos during his time he used to come first in class. Months passed by n we were doing all round cleaning, omo that was how I laid my hands on my dad's report card ooo my dad used to come last in class hmmm. I kept till wen I was much older n confronted him with d result n he laughed and told me "if I had told u then that u were performing than I was wen I was un school, u would v relaxed n not bring out the best in u today"

immediately I saw the headline I tot the OP was just trying to be funny but on a second tot there is nothing wrong with the goat as price. it could be a way of empowering them or a Christmas gift for there families for training them well. weather we all like it or not its a good gesture way better than giving them 2 exercise book with less than 2k

Seriously if you have never lived in a rural area you just cant appreciate this prize award. Back in 2007, my sister of blessed memories gave me some money for Christmas, in my little wisdom, i bought a she goat with it. throughout my undergraduate days in school and project funds i fully appreciated that little investment because it became a source of fund for me, These kids will soon own lots of goats from these prize and they are on there way to a level of financial freedom in the nearest future. Congratulations to the children.

They should have problem with the prize if they so wish. An average goat is more than #10,000 here in Ibadan, so if they are saying #10,000 worth of prize is too small for primary school pupil they should have their brains examined.

its not just about money. I will prefer to take a goat instead of 10k. U can finish 10k in a day, but if u breed d goat it can get u more goats after all, they are in d village. 4 me its a good deal

what will u use d cash value of a small goat to achieve in d village?goats are animals that are easy to breed especially in d village. In no time, they will start multiplying
