I once read an article back in 2011 where a northern general who fought during the civil war said that there is an agreement with yoruba leadership that grants the north unrestricted 1 mile corridor access to lagos port. He warned that any attempt to block it will lead to war.

Also, the secret phone call that leaked after Jonathans loss between a northerner and a yoruba muslim revealed that the North want to build more infrastructures connecting it to lagos ports.

Also, notice how all the head of the Nigerian ports authority has always been Northerners.

If oil dries up, the significance of Lagos Sea port will diminish. Every coaster city will develop it's own sea port and Northern importers will decide which port will like to use. At the end, the North will become the shining bride in which everyone is wooing to come with subsidize fees.

The North on the other hand can also utilize the sea ports in Cotonu and Lome and Duala in Cameron. From Duala to Fufore in Adamawa is less than the distance from Adamawa to Lagos. The distance from Kamba and Bagudo in Kebbi to Cotonu in Benin is less than the journey from kebbi to Lagos.

A lot of people think the North can't survive without the sea ports in the south, bring on restructuring and allow the north freedom to choose where to import it's good from and see that N20 Billions tax generated in Lagos reduced to half.
