the north don't have sea port and commercial oil that is the two major reason, as it is one of the reason is enough for them not to accept. lets not forget that the south west contributes immensely to the economy and development of the country because of three major reason.

1. Sea port, Lagos Sea port contributes
2. Airport, Lagos international and Local Airport
3. The industrialists of Igbos in south west that contribute IGR.

let assume that the oil in the country dried up and Nigeria depends on imported fuel to run the economy, the south south economy will be crippled which will shake the entire country and abuja due to forex and there would be high inflation and massive recession.

the only economic state remaining that would be Lagos and close state proximity.

the country will then depends and run the budget on tax, the taxes would be increased which would have an impact on the common man.

lagos state tax will be use to run the whole country.

this is not how it works in india. i was opportune to spend some time in india and i can tell you that India is well structured.

example is that the telecom recharge card in lagos cannot be use in edo. Mumbai have their sim configured while new Delhi have theirs. just like that for all state. for any recharge card that you load, the state get their tax while federal get their own the minute you refiled, it calculate.

if you send or bring Mumbai recharged card to new Delhi it will not enter to their sim. except you traveled to new Delhi with the sim then it will enters roaming. any recharged card you load on New Delhi the tax will be deducted from the airtime shared between Mumbai and new Delhi. and call rate will increases as well for roaming sim.

what this means is that all state generate their money from tax accordingly.

but in Nigeria all telecom tax goes to federal who then take a lion share and shared pin nut to states that contribute hugely to that money.

there is no balance and fairness. imagine lagos for example generate 30 billion from recharge card tax. and borno generate 1billion. then both state end up getting 500 million each. that alone is cheat and can nor create the needed development that each state produce.

SW and N are like five and six. Even if your oil didn't driy up you guys will suffer mst. You can't eat oil you can't live the rest of your life on cassava and wine, oil is slowly losing it value. The north has oil and it's the food basket of Nigeria.

This is for northerners and Yorubas to sort it out themselves. The northerners might let igbos go without a fight but they will never let Yorubas leave. They need Lagos port for survival.

Once oil is worthless, the niger delta automatically becomes worthless and the real marginalization will start. They will be the ones carrying Biafran matter like gala.

I once read an article back in 2011 where a northern general who fought during the civil war said that there is an agreement with yoruba leadership that grants the north unrestricted 1 mile corridor access to lagos port. He warned that any attempt to block it will lead to war.

Also, the secret phone call that leaked after Jonathans loss between a northerner and a yoruba muslim revealed that the North want to build more infrastructures connecting it to lagos ports.

Also, notice how all the head of the Nigerian ports authority has always been Northerners.

The North will never allow the West to leave. They will use yoruba muslims to sabotage any attempt.

yes they need the port even more than the oil. but if Niger Delta should leave and Biafra leave via referendum Claus. there will no longer be any strong binding that holding south west from a referendum and if its a breakup by war the same thing applies the south will team up to help the west.

owolowo dont want to lose lagos to federal that why he didnt term up ojukwu. and one of the reason ojukwu wanted to capture lagos then but he was mistaking.

If oil dries up, the significance of Lagos Sea port will diminish. Every coaster city will develop it's own sea port and Northern importers will decide which port will like to use. At the end, the North will become the shining bride in which everyone is wooing to come with subsidize fees.

The North on the other hand can also utilize the sea ports in Cotonu and Lome and Duala in Cameron. From Duala to Fufore in Adamawa is less than the distance from Adamawa to Lagos. The distance from Kamba and Bagudo in Kebbi to Cotonu in Benin is less than the journey from kebbi to Lagos.

A lot of people think the North can't survive without the sea ports in the south, bring on restructuring and allow the north freedom to choose where to import it's good from and see that N20 Billions tax generated in Lagos reduced to half.

The North has good relationship with all its neighbors, Niger, Benin, Chad and Cameroon, we can go into partnership with anyone of them. The SW minus Lagos is nothing but a landscape full of tropical rainforest and colanut farm

Which part of English language is giving you problems? Comprehension or Reading? I never said Lagos ports aren't important, what I said was that, in a restructured Nigeria, their influence and significance will be reduced.

Reason, the SE and SS states will develop and utilize their own seaports, the North will most likely use neighboring countries ports that are way too efficient and safe than Nigeria ports as alternative source

Sharap. Restructuring or no restructuring. Lagos ports will always be significant. Before people from other regions started migrating to Lagos, were ghosts the ones using the seaport. Useless theories everywhere. Shift

There's more to life than oil. Everyone in this country will simply use there heads to figure out how to be useful in manufacing and service sector. It's no big deal Texas has oil but its not the end all be all for state.

The rules of power is to perpetuate itself. Why exactly would they let go if the benefits are to be had. If they are strong enough to stick together they will.
