Nigeria is a yeye country. America wey no geh fuel for ground sef no dey get scarcity....

Please don't embarass yourself.

The US produces almost 20 million barrels of oil per day while at our peak we produce 2.5 million barrels.

They also experienced fuel shortages this year though this was due to Hurricane Harvey.

Fact is even the US has suffered fuel shortages.

The shortages occurred as a result of a natural disaster. Which natural disaster do we have here? All our problems are man-made and that is what is most annoying. Even power was restored in Houston and other affected areas within a week. It took major threats from my estate to get AEDC to repair a damaged transformer after three weeks of darkness, and we paid money for some components of those repairs.

Is this a country or a jungle? Even a zoo has some semblance of order!

@POLITICSNGR

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has intensified efforts to flood the market with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), otherwise called petrol, and other products.

Already, six major marketers: Total, Forte Oil, Oando Plc, MRS, 11 Plc and Nipco Plc, are now loading products round the clock from their various depots in Lagos for onward trucking to all parts of the Country.

The supplies are mostly from Cargoes of PMS imported to by NNPC which are daily berthing and immediately being made to discharge their products to stem the supply hiccups.

The imported products are also being supplemented by supplies from the local refineries.

NNPC assures Nigerians to remain calm and not to engage in panic buying as the end of the challenge is nigh.

Marketers are strongly advised against hoarding as security agencies, working with industry regulators, would mete out appropriate sanctions to defaulters.

Earlier in the week, NNPC GMD, Dr. Maikanti Baru, had stated that the Corporation’s 1billion litres PMS cargo imports had started to arrive, saying supplies to parts of the country had been doubled to 80million litres per day since the current hiccup in the supply chain was noticed a few days back.

To be sincerely, I really believed Mr baru, because all effort to beat down the fuel scarcity is on high side by NNpc but I think the people behind this artificial scarcity are the stakeholder.

Awesome, that is the hard earned truth. Since fuel is no longer subsidised, full demand and supply mechanism should drive the price but to deceive Nigerians, government has not allowed that to happened. Rather, they forcing the hands of the marketers into what is not sustainable by fixing price. The problem is that can only solve the problem for a while but it will lead to such crises we have now. Moreso, the independent marketers suffers the loss most cos most of them are retailers and irrespective of the price they buy, they are forced to sell at 145 which is not sustainable considering cost.

Simple, let government let market demand and supply drive price. All these turnaround maintenance they do to our refinery is just another fertile ground for corruption for we know it’s not working and yet it gulps billions of dollars. Let’s them privatise and just allow folks who can invest to source and if they can refine, no stress than deceiving Nigerians

And here In lies the problem, govt intervention in the free market. Get the govt out of the petroleum industry and let the private sector take over. Sell NNPC, NLNG and those refineries.

The way to prevent this in future is for The govt to liberalize the petroleum sector and let the free market take over. This has proven to work in much saner climes but the Nigerian govt seems to hate logic.

First of all, America has oil but they just dont focus on it ascmuch as we do. Their economy is robust enough.
The difference between there oil industry and ours is that they allow the free market to have its way unlike us that believe the govt should get involved in almost every aspect of the economy. In America there is no govt run company like NNPC or NLNG. They are all privately owned. There are also no govt run refineries but in Nigeria all out refineries are govt owned and you see why they don't work. Liberalize the oil and gas industry NOW!

Nothing works in Nigeria. Nigeria situation defiles all known natural, physical or economic laws. Corruption won't allow anything work. Quest for personal gain makes everything impracticable in this country. Even when you liberalise, there will still be problems.

Agreed.

Nigeria is filled with Nigerians.

Until we Nigerians begin to do what is proper as found in other climes, not even our Saviour can change our situation .

The scarcity is deliberate and we all know this, even if we deny it for whatever reasons that appeal to our prejudices.

My gut feeling is, due to the price of the barrel in the international market, marketers are not satisfied with their margins and they are pushing for an increase as they always do.

Unfortunately it would lead to a rise in the price of other goods and services should this happen.

Nigeria is made up of Nigerians .

We are not interested in the Nation but how much we can make today.

Sustainability is a lost word in the Nigerian lexicon.

But liberalizing is the least of all evils. With govt control and influence out of the way the free market (demand and supply) gets to reallocate scarce resources where they need to be.

They claim the marketers intentionally hold fuel yet they are making moves to flood filling station with fuel. It mean they, (NNPC/ GOVERNMENT) intentionally withhold fuel for their selfish reason. Nigeria is a zoo!!!!

This means all the previous talks of nnpc having enough reserve to last for weeks was all lies, same as the excuse that independent marketers n depot operators hoarding fuel is also a lie,as the sole importer of products now can the nnpc,Buhari/APC pls tell Nigerians what the landing cost of the products is,how much is government selling to the marketers, is any subsidy still been paid or not,how is the fuel revenue above budget benchmark been accounted for n managed.let's see the true
state of the fuel situation in Nigeria viz a viz the governments so call honesty n transparency.

Fellow Nigerian,

Which hoarding? Don’t be deceived. No body is hoarding anything. When there is supply, what is there to hoard except running short when you can make your profit in turnover in the numbers of truck you sell. If since February till now, supply has been steady and they didn’t hoard, while will it be December again and they will hoard? It’s because there is no supply. Stop believing in the trash this government spits. They tell you they have deployed so much litres out there! How many are on the list of out there that is captured in this report! Just a selected few. These independent marketers to will meet this few and you expect distribution to be even?

It’s like 300 people trying to buy fuel from one pump, if only you can imagine the drama! Now they talking about ship berthing so you ask so Who is hoarding really here! This shows so much inefficiency and the non proactiveness of the government if there is any word like that in so many ways.

Don’t be deceived o. Any astute business man will do what the marketers are doing and that is maximising profit from stock available already when they don’t know when the next stock will be available. It’s simple law of supply, the lower the supply, the higher the price and vice versa. So don’t blame them. It is the government that spends ridiculous amount of monies in billions of Naira on a comatose refinery and they are just siphoning and deceiving Nigerians that the dead refinery will rise again, are the ones to blame.

Every Nigerian is hoarding invade you don’t know if not, a man that just fills his car fuel tank and Gen fuel tank and comes back again suddenly comes with 50 gallons all because there is fuel scarcity, is that one not hoarding on its own if not, is it pure water that he wants to buy so much and forget that many others need the same fuel?

Abeg
