The Catholic Pontiff, Pope Benedict XVI in his Easter message yesterday entrusted the future of Nigeria, Democratic Republic of Congo and Guinea into God’s hand taking into cognizance the long suffering of the countries citizens.

"In our days too, humanity needs an 'exodus', not just superficial adjustment, but a spiritual and moral conversion. It needs the salvation of the Gospel, so as to emerge from a profound crisis, one which requires deep change, beginning with consciences," Benedict said.

"In the strength of the risen Jesus, may the conflicts in Africa come to an end, conflicts which continue to cause destruction and suffering," the pope said.

He also mentioned several of the world's leading international crises, praying for an "exodus" from war and violence in the Middle East and an end to suffering for Christian communities, "especially in Iraq."

"May the risen Lord sustain the Christians who suffer persecution and even death for their faith, as for example in Pakistan," he said.

He cited the "dangerous resurgence" of drug crimes in Latin America and the Caribbean, the "appalling tragedy" of the earthquake in Haiti, and the "grave catastrophe" of the quake in Chile.

He prayed for all countries affected by terrorism and discrimination, and touched on the financial crisis as well. "To the leaders of nations, may Easter bring light and strength, so that economic and financial activity may finally be driven by the criteria of truth, justice and fraternal aid."

Concluding his annual "Urbi et Orbi" "To the City and to the World" address, Benedict added, "Easter does not work magic. Just as the Israelites found the desert awaiting them on the far side of the Red Sea, so the Church, after the resurrection, always finds history filled with joy and hope, grief and anguish. And yet, this history is changed, it is marked by a new and eternal covenant, it is truly open to the future."

Our suffering don reach for world leaders to ask God to help us. Are we suffering that bad?. He no even mention Ghana or Cote D'ivoire.

Are you a little boy, or altar boy, do you know anyone of them closely enough? What's prosecuted and publisized in US and Europe today had been long accepted as a"norm" in Nigeria. Do you know any "nwa-fada" growing up?
Also, as beautiful as you look, if you had been a nun, you would have another type of request to direct God's attention to Nigerians.

@naijaking1, every society has its challenges, in Europe and America Gayism is acceptable but in Africa and Niaja in particular where there is an abundance of (available) women, church leaders (priest, pastors, GO etc) are more prone to such s.ex scandals with women (married or single) than little Children.
You however didn't comment on the merits or demerits of the Pope's message but jumped into irrelevant matters, typical of Africans.

Are they the only ones passing little boys through that  assuming  all of their pastors are bad?

This is a global message, it has noting to do with scandal. It is like leaving the content of a book to attack the publisher. Haba, Nairalanders, focus on the topic and the message for God's sake.

Why was Nigeria stressed in the global message?

Ironically, it is only in Nigeria that pple don't really know what they r passing thru. Outsiders watching us know our plight than we do.

Pope thanks for remembering Nigeria in prayers, our problem has now became a world issue. Politicians, the whole world is watching and remember God is watching too.
