it still beat me how davido and wizkid win international awards when none of dem come close to d likes of their south African counterparts such as cassper nyovest, aka, tellaman, and d king of dem all Nasty C. when u compare davido and wizkid to these guys in terms of lyrical contents of their songs and music style den u would know Nigeria's music industry is lagging behind.
im in South Africa and i have an answer for you.
South African hip hop is not going anywhere coz it sounds too much like American hip hop.you say Cassper Nyovest is good and its coz his music sounds like the hip hop we all know from the US. and thats a bad thing. Nigerian hip hop has that distinctly african rythm to it thats catching. thats why even US artists choose Nigerian artistes for collabos not SA aristes. SA artists sound too american that there is no point in having a collabo with them.
in SA we dig nigerian music. its very african.

The year has finally reached an end and this is the ideal time we show you the top 10 Nigerian songs 2017 and alongside top 20 and 30 respectively. These are the best songs in Nigeria; the most popular songs in Naija in 2017, songs that made people's moments regardless of critics.

While our Nigerian singers and rappers are trying their best to release hit songs, 2017 truly helped make things easier as we recorded more popular songs contrasted with previous years. Nigeria's Music Industry is genuinely the number one in Africa and I don't think anybody would argue about this.

All things considered, Nigerian artists are talented and our style of music is unique and can't be duplicated. Sometimes, when I hear people complain about it, I simply whisper to them that "We can't be like them", that is the reason we are different. Trust Pius Princewill, whenever I write concerning Nigeria's Entertainment Industry, I make efforts not to be partial and always give in my best amidst critics.

These songs below were chosen in view of popular releases from January 2017 down to December 2017. The criteria I used as a part of selecting them did not depend on how informative they are, but rather their popularity - the rate at which people were familiar with them. These songs didn't just trend in Lagos, however, they were spread all over the country.

I took time to draft out every one of them in a sheet and was even befuddled on the actual song I should include or not. This is the reason I needed to make the list up to 30 so we all could remember those songs we couldn't do without in 2017. Nonetheless, I still got answers from top friends in the industry before listing them here. Let's quickly head on to the post catchphrase.

Well it seems Nigerians just wanna dance though. l recently came across one of the best jams from Tiwa Savage(in my opinion) with a very artistic video and some good lyrics(never knew Tiwa savage was that brilliant). l learnt it was written and produced during her marriage crises, to me it's her best song.
Tiwa Savage....lf l start to talk.

Even with all these, it is perhaps one of the most ignored/underrated tracks ever from Tiwa Savage by Nigerians.

I feel the fans make them that way
A song like I wish by Ycee didn't make any wave
The joint Album of Simi and Fall didn't make much wave
Falz 27 album didn't
But we two people like Tekno that give us gibberish
How many people Listens to AdekunleGold, Timi, Darey.
I am not saying all songs should be Emotional and R&B.
But give us songs with sensible lyrics.
That's the reason MI was complaining that there are no flows and bars in Naija Hip Hop any longer

But across the continent and even outside the continent, people are getting interested in Nigerian music and musicians (from my observation) because they do their thing.
Even when they imitate the Americans, they fuse it with the African vibe in a way together with the videos.
The mentality of the outsider is. .lf l want some hip hop or rap, why look to South African musicians, when l can always listen to Eminem and the Americans in general?
From my journey outside and my research, so many people are interested in African culture because they want to see/hear something different from what they know.

Indigenous Ibibio rapper, Ikpa Udo must be singing songs of melody right now, as the violent wind of death narrowly breezed past the ‘Lyrical Edidem’ as he escaped a ghastly auto crash yesterday.
