The recent election of ace football, George Opone Weah as President in Liberia is beginning to spur the interest of some key Nigerian footballers in politics. According to a source (who prefers not to be named yet because of the sensitive nature of the issue), some notable ex-super Eagles international are seriously contemplating presidential ambition.

In furtherance of this pursuit, Messrs Kanu, Okocha and Ayegbeni are planning an octane meeting of all football greats in Nigeria to discuss contribution towards inauguration of the incoming Liberian President, after which they will spend time in Monrovia to promote the agenda. The octane meeting has been scheduled for first week in the new year at a popular club owned by one of the ex-footballer. According to the source, although there is no decision yet as regards the political platform to be adopted for this agenda, definitely none of the big known parties will be considered. Instead it is anticipated that one of the recently registered political parties will be acquired and re-branded. The issue of funding, structure, BOT and NWC will follow after the Monrovia meeting.

The source further hinted that high level contact sourcing and networking are already ongoing, there is a grand plot to seize the opportunity of the 2018 World Cup mundial in Russia to win attraction to the group. A Technical Committee is being constituted in this regard to reach out to critical constituents including Nollyhoohd, diaspora groups etc there is also a leading UK-based IT firm that has been mentioned to manage social media and IT infrastructure of the emerging group.
