Fire is defined as a chemical reaction which involves heat, fuel, oxygen and gas. So to make you understand very well receiving a call can start a fire cos it is being based on radioactivity by that way there will be a chemical reaction. I hope I tried answering your question.

yes! you are correct, as i ve asserted it should not be termed as attempted arson or even criminalised,
but knowing nigerians they will not follow that simple rules unless police, crime or prison is attached to it grin
they do not like going to prison.
people actually follow that instruction.

You can easily put this to test yourself. When next you are at the gas station place a call on your mobile phone while discharging fuel. Please see example of such an accident on YouTube. Be careful of all suspect scientific studies that are often funded by industry funded lobbyist.

But give the test a try and come back here to educate us on the result. About the Nigerian police, may be another avenue for extortion. But in a country of people that are largely indiscipline I will rather have the police extort a "stubborn goat" than have multiple people killed or injured and millions of property lost.

Ordinary static discharge from your body in an environment filled with gaseous flammable can cause fire. Gas stations here in the United States carries signs that advised against use of cell phones in gas stations. Those signs are not there for nothing.
Absolutely! you make a lot of sense!

The police have said that making phone calls at filling stations is a criminal offence which could land the offender in jail.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood, stated that an offender could be prosecuted and jailed for attempted arson.

He noted that police officers have the authority to arrest anyone found making phone calls or smoking at filling stations.

He described the filling station as a public facility where motorists cannot act as they like on account of the inflammable products like petrol and other petroleum products being dispensed there.

Moshood, therefore, cautioned the public against violating the safety rules forbidding smoking and phone calls at filling stations.

He said, “Making phone calls or smoking at filling stations is a criminal offence and the police, of course, could arrest anyone violating the safety rules put in place to safeguard life and property at the filling stations.”

Bros pls what about if there is a leaked gas at home and you noticed that, is it advisable to turn on or off any electrical appliances
Jbols2001:
1. There is not relationship between mobile phone and explosion in filling station. This myth has been flawed a long time ago. For an explosion to happen there have to be an ignition and a mobile phone cannot ignite anything. What typically causes petrol station fire is charges gathered in one's body before touching the petrol dispenser. Please watch Mythbusters S01E03.

2. When did the police start writing the law. The police is only mandated to enforce the law. the National/state House of assembly are empowered to make laws while the judiciary interpretes the law. This is Govt 101. So I don't understand this post...which house of assembly passed this law. Anyway, we live in a lawless country.

3. Happy New Year and have a prosperous 2018.

A lot of things can cause spark in a petrol station, making a call is not the problem, your phone ringing is the issue, that is why they say put off your phone, so that the spark from your phone will not ignite certain gases.

You are also advised to switch off your ignition.

Re: Making Calls At Filling Stations Is Now A Crime — Police by smalls001: 1:22pm On Dec 31, 2017
Wrong!!!!!!
Danger is mainly environments saturated with hydrocarbon vapor. Phones can be a source of ignition resulting in explosion/fire. The petrol station's environment is not usually saturated with HC vapor but has the potential to that is why it is discouraged. Same as when you go to areas such as wellheads or other production facilities. Bringing a phone or making calls close to pouring fuel does not necessary cause explosion.....

Dannys85:

Next time you are turning fuel into your generator or car, just bring out your phone and make or receive call, hopefully your village people will be awake.Your question will be answered with illustrations.
Re: Making Calls At Filling Stations Is Now A Crime — Police by smalls001: 1:26pm On Dec 31, 2017
Complete clowns. The onus is on the owner of the petrol station to have systems in place to prevent the use of phones and smoking. That is why they have their safety signs posted all around and at the pumps. Where someone refuses to, they have the right to ask him to leave or further call the police if he refuses. It's not for the police to mount checkpoints at every gas station looking for persons making calls. Don't they have better things to do?
Re: Making Calls At Filling Stations Is Now A Crime — Police by PrinceGallant: 1:53pm On Dec 31, 2017
They have beclouded our sense of reasoning with this don't-make-calls-in-filling-stations. Ask them how many filling station has engulfed in fire since this lie has been spreading? No one filling station has been reported, not here in Nigeria, not anywhere in the whole world. Does that mean people are not making calls in the stations? Even attendants in the stations do make and receive calls. Inside depots, wallaahi people are making calls, note my work requests that I go to every depot everyday.

The only news that you would hear is that explosion occurred when someone was pouring petrol into his generator while using flashlight in his phone and a call entered. The news is questionable, why only such a thing while calls are making and received besides counter in filling stations and inside depots.

Well, Nigeria Police, if true they said it is a crime to make calls, have gotten another means to exploit us. But the news did not mention where and when Mr policeman said it, and what caused it.

Well, this is Nigeria. Allaahu Musta'an.

Electromagnetic Radiation
The two-way communication between your
phone and the network tower takes place
through electromagnetic waves – invisible
waves that race to the network tower and
return to your phone in seconds! These waves
have energy values in the range of 1.24
Megaelectron-Volts to 12.4 Peta-
electronvolts. It is assumed that this
electromagnetic radiation is a cause of
concern; because they carry so much energy,
they may cause sparks and consequently
ignite gas, which could cause monumental
damage in a place like a gas station!

You no get sense... half education is bad... you should have asked why, before exposing your ignorance. receiving phone calls in filling station is dangerous... electromagnetic radiation from the phone can ignite the petrol or gas. It's for your safety. so also with smoking. Let's not react to issues without knowledge

i am not here to dignify ur poor reasoning with a response , but for the sake of others. The duty of police is to enforce law and not to make laws. Making calls in filling station is a simple safety precaution which proper orientation by every petrol station has to enforce and not the duty of police force. They are quick to take steps in arresting people but dnt respond fast in the case of emergency.

If police feel they are maKing sense, let them sponsor a bill to to the national assembly to criminalise it b4 enforcing it, who made them Lawmakers to jst wake up one morning and start deciding whn to criminalise any issue?

that is not the duty of police. Every station has safety rules guiding them, they should apply every rules to enforce it not police. The naija police always looking for easy job and loopholes to rob people.

What wil the police do, arrest anybody at site with phone with the excuse of making call within the filling station wil become their new avenue of lies to extort innocent citizens

This is just a myth! Nigerian police and stupid laws to enable egunjeism!

1. The signal of your self phone is too small to ignite flames even with explosives
2. There's no single PROVEN occurrence anywhere in the world that this has happened.

I even watched this on myth busters many years back. They proved the improbability of this.

Static electricity is the culprit.
And what would be the source of d static electricity sir?
