Interesting statistics, although not everyone is an employee. It would be great to see stats for business owners and the self employed. Many states opt for the lone trader route rather than being employed by a company or organisation. I wonder if this study takes that into account in its definitions of employed and unemployed. 1 Like |

These stats make sense but nobody really cares to take time to read them. In Q3 2017, 16.4% of rural and 23.4% of urban dwellers within the labor force were unemployed and unemployment is increasing at a slightly faster rate for urban dwellers than it is for their rural 1 Like |

Lots of South easterners are traders so that classifies as "self employed". It's better you start a business or trade in the South East, rather than looking for a job. |

Do you see why I don't take NBS and Made in Nigeria statistics serious. They used proportion of the labour force (15-60 years) working in white collar jobs to measure employment rate. What happened to self employment? Did anybody notice unemployment rate in almost Northern state are single digits, while the lowest in the SE is Anambra with about 13%. Imagine Katsina with large population and without industries has an unemployment rate lower than Anambra. Made in Nigeria Statistics continue. 1 Like |

SouthEastFacts: See why nobody takes you guys seriously. Your inability to read and comprehend basic information is amazing. Self employed people are counted in labor force. You Igbos need to stop embarrassing yourselves. It's likes stats or English isn't taught in SE anymore. If you work for yourself your in the labor force and your employed. The reason North has lower employment rates is because the typical more involved with agriculture and blue collar work. The have higher under employment rates because this work is seasonal. Second graduates have higher unemployment rates as well. Blue collar work more available. Employment and Unemployment The total population in Nigeria is divided into labor force (currently active) and non-labor force (not 3 Likes 1 Share |

Blue3k:Oga, stop deceiving yourself. We are not illiterate in the SE. According to the statistics 1 out of every 10 job seekers are currently unemployed while 2 out of 10 of them are only underemployed. This means the other 9 are actively engaged while 8 out of the 10 are correctly priced hence satisfied with their pay package. Check Annual job turnover in Nigeria and then tell me you believe that Made in Nigeria Statistics. You can celebrate sham! We can't. |

Re: Employment, Unemployment and Underemployment Rate By State by Blue3k(m): 6:53pm On Jan 04, 2018 |
SouthEastFacts: Lol this is a pathetic response. Please save the SE the shame of being lumped in with you. The unemployment is mainly in the south were higher skilled work is demanded for graduates. The math is correct. 8/10 underemployed means they can't get full time work. 9/10 have full time work doing what ever. The rates are skewed by who it leaves out of labor market because you have to be actively seeking work. Turnover means the company able to replace employees. That means people are employed. You guys celebrate shams all the time. Here's a few you probably read here. Igbos control 80% of import market, Igbos own most of the properties in Lagos, etc. 5 Likes |

The unemployment rate rounds 18.8% The underemployment is 21.2% Underemployment however occurs if you work less than full time hours, which is 40 hours, but work at 3 Likes

Re: Employment, Unemployment and Underemployment Rate By State by SouthEastFacts: 7:31pm On Jan 04, 2018 |
Blue3k:Do you know why I don't like NBS, they use proxies to capture data. This yields unreliable data. The same way they use primary school enrollment to measure literacy rate. Tell me, why should they use part time workers to capture under-employment in Nigeria? Part time work falls under under-employment but doesn't give a holistic view of that. A graduate paid 30k is under-employed. When you study Medicine but teaches in a school, you are under-employed. When you can treat 10 patients but assigned only 7, you are still under-employed no matter how much you are paid. Under-employement leads to labour turnout. NBS statistics says under-employment rate in Nigeria is 21%. This means 8 out of every 10 workers in Nigeria are gainfully employed. Check this with our labour turnover rate and you will discover that the labour turnover is overwhelmingly above the under-employment rate. Lower under-employment rate means higher job satisfaction. How many Nigerians are satisfied with their job? NBS can deceive illiterates not us. 1 Like |
Re: Employment, Unemployment and Underemployment Rate By State by Blue3k(m): 7:35pm On Jan 04, 2018 |
SouthEastFacts: Underemployment means not working full time all over the world it's not unreliable. The gave you reason and you coming up with unintelligent nonsense. It doesn't matter why your skills are not bring utilised. You labor turnover argument is moot point by the definition of what employment means in general. The DR education system failed you if simple definition confound you. The NBS doesn't care how many jobs you work. This is why farm workers are counted as underemployed if that's their only job. After farming season they have to find something else to do. 3 Likes |
