It is increasing becoming clearer that Jonathan was a more humane manager of resources than this cattle rearer from Daura. Even at 100 dollar per litre, Jonathan was able to sustain a subsidy regime which ensures that fuel was sold at 97 naira per litre, from 75 naira it formerly sold. This cut down in subsidy generated a fund called sureP.
Here is Buhari, at 45 dollar to a barrel, fuel was sold at 145 naira from the former 87 naira. There is no report of a fund saved due to subsidy removal. Instead, government is taking a billion dollars from the excess crude account in the guise of fighting terrorism.
Two things are involved here. It is either Buhari and his cohorts are massively stealing from us or he is as dumb as a dullard, having no iota of idea as to where the money is migrating to.
Fulani people are naturally stingy and wicked. Buhari is a typical example of Fulani people

“Three, to look at the direction of blanket subsidy for all the importers in bridging the gap which would be like going back to a problem that had earlier been solved,”

This problem has not been solved and cannot be solved by a man as daft as Bubu.

How did GEJ manage to keep the pump price at #97 and exchange rate at #199 while the price of crude oil was over $90?

Allowing the marketers to access forex at the rate of N204 is still another name for subsidy. Just that this time around, the product will not even be available as it will be more profitable to sell the dollars at N360 without any sweat. This is one of the areas the immediate past administration actually goofed. cheesy

NNPC mega stations at N145 while the masses are at mercy of other marketers is not even a logical option. Another room for some NNPC mega stations managers to quickly make their millions. grin

Total deregulation, na im win am.
It has become increasingly clear that this APC government is confused and lacks focus.

Complainants.

There must be a local price response to the international price of oil.

As long as we don't have local refining capacity we must react to the landing costs.

Lament all you want but reality is reality.

I heard him clearly on TV when he said that as long as the price of PMS is higher across the border there will be incentive for fuel scarcity.
That statement on it's own suggest someone is thinking of price increment to normalize the price differential.

One thing I know Buha is using this man to do the yo man's job. As he used him successfully to increase it the last time after blowing all the grammar yet we are worse off than where we were.

We must be vigilant and watch out for his scheming ways to fool us again into another fuel price increase because it is clear they lack ideas on how to generate internal revenue other than to increase fuel price and impoverish Nigerians.

Everyone shouting Buhari should profer a solution. This is the almighty Kachukwu saying these meaning that there is no solution if you want to maintain 145.

The only solution is deregulation.

GEJ: crude- 113, exchange- 160, pms- 97

PMB: crude- 65, exchange- 305, pms- 145.

Can someone please make the price of crude 113 and see if those values won't return

Getting our local refineries to work will proffer lasting solution to the root cause of the problem, however, 'alternative solution 2' can engender untold sabotage to the major players i.e NNPC.

Actually, GEJ maintained the subsidy at the expense of our savings in the foreign reserve...and no, i am not criticising him, he saw that total deregulation would be beneficial to the country long term...hence the increase from N65 to N140 in 2012...which was forced back to N97 after protests. If GEJ had been allowed to proceed with his planned deregulation he would have been a much better manager of resources....with the massive inflow of investment into the oil sector that would have resulted. Unfortunately, Nigerians love low prices.

But even with GEJ's subsidy, by 2014, fuel was being sold above the recommended retail price outside Abuja, Lagos and a few main cities. This was a justification of GEJ's truncated decision to remove subsidy in 2012.

Buhari, by contrast, cannot afford to subsidize fuel for these reasons

1.The low crude prices means lower revenues for the government...and by extension lower revenues for subsidies of any kind.

2.Buhari had to save dollars heavily as a result of the low crude prices...or we would have had N100000= $1 today.

3.Fuel prices went up as a result.

4.Right now we need oil to be at $139 to run a budget where we actually have enough money for everything. Oil is at $66. Bubu....and for that matter GEJ in his time ....really do not have the money either way to pay for subsidies...which is why fuel prices have to go up.

What consideration exactly?

Oil is a commodity with demand and supply determining its price.

Do we have the capacity to refine?

Just like anything you give most Nigerians to run a refinery in the hands of civil servants would not function so the solution is either to import or privately refine.

It doesn't need emotions but practicalities.

Keneking:
What happens to Dangote refinery?

"Kachikwu told the public hearing at the national assembly on Thursday that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC had incurred a cumulative loss of N85.5 billion in importing petrol and selling at the current retail price of N145 per litre since October 2017."
- NNPC is not transparent

Position on options:

“One, is for the Central bank of Nigeria (CBN) to allow the marketers access forex at the rate of N204 to a dollar as against the official rate of N305 to keep the pump price of fuel per litre at N145.

- Round tripping comes to mind.
- PMB would make access to forex limited again.

“Two, to give room for modulated deregulation where NNPC would be allowed to continue selling at N145 per litre in all its mega stations across the country while the independent marketers should be allowed to sell at whatever price is profitable to them in all their outlets.

- Impossible, only full deregulation can make this happen
- NNPC would lose out
- Dangote refinery business would lose out
- Modular refinery business would not even see the light of the day.

“Three, to look at the direction of blanket subsidy for all the importers in bridging the gap which would be like going back to a problem that had earlier been solved,” he said .

- Nigerians have said no to this since 2015

He, however, stressed that the final solution to the problem was for the nation to put her refineries in good shape in a way that 80 per cent of local consumption of the product should be provided for locally.

- Not achievable within the next years until NNPC refineries are SOLD
I think I can agree with your points, notwithstanding the near-correctness of your thoughts on point#2...
