Response To True Tithe: Why African Christians Remain Poor Despite Tithing. by Nobody: 9:15am On Jan 06, 2018
Before I begin, I will like to tell the write of the said post that African Christians are the richest Christians the whole over. The writer tried to confuse the wealth of the nations to the wealth of the church.

In the country listed by the writer of the said post, the government supports most of the ministries in those nations financially. But here in Nigeria, the government is trying to take from the church.

Let me remind the writer this once popular adage, "as poor as church rat." This adage was used to describe the poverty state of the church before the era of Bishop Benson Idahosah who championed the teaching of prosperity of which Tithing was a major part. During those period, getting a bicycle for a priest or pastor usually take over 5 year with intensive giving.

The Bible said, " And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches." - Proverb 24:4. The church became wealthy through the knowledge of the word of prosperity as revealed in the word of God which had been hidden before then. Now listen, the church will return to the beggarly days if they take to the wisdom of the beggarly days.

Many has confused tithe as a law. Tithe is not a law but God's secret of prosperity revealed to Abraham, even before God became the God of Abraham. The bible said in John 1:17, For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. The law wasn't given by Abraham. Moses brought in the revealed secrets of Abraham into the law because, "The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever" - Deut 29:29.

After Abraham had paid Tithe God said to him, "After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward." Gen 15:1. Tithe is offering not gift. When you give your Tithe to a beggar, you share in the inheritance of the beggar. Don't give holy things to men. You give beggars gift.

What people don't know is that there are many kinds of tithe. But that is not for today.

Jesus said in Matthew 23:23

New International Version

"Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices--mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law = justice, mercy and faithfulness.

You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former.

What Jesus was saying is, you should have given more attention to spiritual things than physical things.

You need to understand who the pharisees where. They were self seeking men. Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples, 2 Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat: 3 All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not. 4 For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers. 5 But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments, 6 And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues, 7 And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi. - Matthew 23:1-7. Even at that, Jesus told the people to do what the pharisees told them to do because they sat on Moses sit.

It's the sit that makes the man not the man the sit. President Buhari is the most powerful person in Nigeria now because of the sit he occupies. We follow his instruction because he is occupying that sit not because he is Buhari. Jesus said do same to the pharisees though they don't do what they preach for your own good. Not for the good of the pharisees.

The write of the post was trying to push government responsibility to the church of God. There is no where in the word where the church partner with any organization to take care of the needy. Every church has its arm where they take care of the needy. The government of nation is the one that partner with churches to take care of the needy not the church that partner with the nation.

Any church that publicizes its charity works to the world seeks men's glory rather than God's glory.

The question is, how many people even give tithe in the church?

You will be surprised that more than 80% of the church population don't give tithe. The church is financially wise now. They make a lot of investment. Tithe is for your good not the good of the church.

The poster is a big liar! Mention the countries where the govt is giving money to churches. Also, when did the Nigerian govt try to collect money from churches?

Dear OP, how did God instruct tithes to be paid?

It would be nice to make historical reference to how tithing was done...as opposed to the false doctrine of obligatory monetary tithing being practiced in the church today.

Unless you are implying that you know more than God that gave instructions on how tithing should be done as detailed in the book of Deuteronomy.

By the way, tithing is not required to access God's blessings under the new covenant.

I am not against giving to the Church or Pastor...but I am clearly against this false doctrine of obligatory monetary tithing.
