2017 Hundred Most Influential Africans- You Can Make The List In 2018

You pondering why we writing an article on 2017 100 Most Influential Africans when we are in 2018? Yes the article couldn’t have come at a better time than now because it’s the beginning of a new year, and now is the best time for anyone that is envious of the personalities in the list to work harder and make the list this year.
Towards the end of 2017 New African Magazine released a list of 100 most influential Africans which it drops yearly. It's been five years now that 100 people are chosen as the most influential in all the African countries.

In all the previous lists, the last year list stood out. Out of hundred, 42 women was featured and Nigeria topped the nomination with 21 entries followed by South Africa with 14 entries. The entire list has personalities from 31 African countries

The list is spread over eight categories of diverse human achievements:
-Politics and Public service
-Business and Finance
-Civil society and Activism
-Education
-Science, Technology and Innovation
-Media
-Arts and Culture
-Sport

Nigerians that made the list include: Amina J Mohammed -UN Deputy Secretary General, African Development Bank President; Winner – World Food Prize 2017, Akinwumi Adesina, Bola Ahmed Tinubu – Former Lagos State Governor and Nigeria Vice President Prof Yemi Osinbajo also made the list in the Politics and Public Service category for how he served as a safe pair of hands during President Buhari’s enforced absence for most part of 2017.

In Business and finance, only Aliko Dangote –Africans richest man and the President of Dangote group of campanies, this has its branches scattered across Africa. Dr. Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu – Minister of State for Petroleum Resources also made the cut as the leading business magnates in Nigeria.

For civil society and activism, Dr Fatima Akilu – Psychologists and founder Neem Tree Foundation Rehabilitating Boko Haram victims and Ikponwosa Ero – UN’s Human Rights Council Independent Expert on the Enjoyment of Human Rights by Persons with Albinism.

Tech entrepreneur and educationist Tom Ilube made the list in education

Anne-Marie Imafidon – child prodigy, co-founder of Stemettes for young women in science and tech, Iyinoluwa ‘E’ Aboyeji – Founder, Flutterwave, Jelani Aliyu – Design of GM’s electric Chevrolet Volt car, now new Director general of Nigeria’s National Automotive Design and Development Council for Science, Technology and Innovation all featured in the Science and Technology category

Adedoyin Adepitan – Intrepid Paralympian and TV presenter was the only Nigerian featured for media.

Arts and culture has the highest number of entries, with four Nigerians in the list:
Roye Okupe – Found YouNeek Studios – which creates African comic books and superheroes, WizKid – Award-winning Afrobeat sensation, Njideka Akunyili Crosby – Visual Artist and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie – Author, Feminist and Global Icon- she made a return in this category.

Eniola Aluko – the football star who stood up and exposed racism in the English FA and Asisat Oshoala – Women’s football royalty made it in the Sports category.
