Non-academic Staffs Strike Still On– Official by Otunbalarry: 8:58am On Jan 11, 2018
The Non Academic Staff Union of Universities has not called off her strike, the Public Relations officer of SSANU has told Education Herald.

Speaking with our correspondent Abdussobur Salaam said Universities currently on resumption are only deceiving themselves, he made reference to Obafemi Awolowo University where he said the University Management is only deceiving Students with order to resume “Our strike is still in Full force, some Vice Chancellors have gone ahead to ask Students to resume in efforts to show that Non-academic Staffs are irrelevant but they know that they are only pushing things too far”

Salaam further said “In OAU for instance they have fixed examination but even the University Management knows what is been missed with Non-academics Strike on ground, they can go ahead to fix dates for examination but our services are withdrawn already, some of the Universities go on to power their school through Generators which won’t last at all”.

On efforts made by the Federal Government in resolving the crisis, he said the Unions are still waiting “We held the Last meeting on the 19th of December but we are yet to hear again from them, we want to believe that they are still waiting for more days to settle down into the new year”

Abdussobur blasted Vice Chancellors who are pushing workers to the wall by employing private Staffs to take over works of Non-academics, in his words, all efforts would not last long.

Schools like Obafemi Awolowo University, University of Ibadan and Couple of others have gone ahead to fix resumption dates and examination dates for students despite the ongoing nationwide strike by the Non-academics.

Joint Action Committee consisting of NASU, NAAT and SSANU declared strike action recently to protest what they termed as bias in sharing formula of Earned Allowance released by the Federal Government for the University workers, it was reported that the Non Academic Unions got 11% while Academic Staffs got 89% of the released funds stirring controversy
