Shortly after Buhari returned from medical vacation, he had a meeting with his security chiefs in which IPOB was discussed. A little while after, a certain military operation called Python dance ll for the South East was announced. Everyone in the South East of course knew that the operation was aimed at IPOB since there was no serious crime issue in the South East that was out of the ordinary with what obtains elsewhere. On the 11th of September last year, there was a sudden invasion of the Capital of Abia state, Umuahia, which resulted in clashes with the authorities and IPOB. There was a full scale military invasion of Kanu's premises on the 14th of September and Kanu has not been heard of since then. The next day, the Nigerian Army declared IPOB a terrorist orgsnisation and a week later, the government went to the courts to have it gazetted. The international community such as the US and the EU came out immidiately to state that they do not see IPOB as a terrorist organisation. Special Advicer to Buhari on Media, Garba Shehu, came out on national tv to say that "Fulani herdsmen are just mere criminals but IPOB are real terrorists"

Benue has always been in the news for clashes with Fulani herdsmen. In the last two weeks, over a hundred civilians have been massacred including 2 Policemen.

But the facts are:

IPOB have never taken up arms, Fulani herdsmen are openly armed.

IPOB have never killed anyone, Fulani herdsmen kill hundreds of people every year

When IPOB are not happy about something, they vent their anger through peaceful protest on the streets. When Fulani herdsmen are not happy, they vent their own anger through their AK 47

Despite the fact that there was no break down of law and order in the South East, the government had no problem sending Soldiers after an unarmed IPOB. But despite complete break down of law, violence, murder and destruction of properties in the Benue, the governent of Buhari cannot deploy the Army against his own kinsmen.

Even though IPOB was unarmed and had little or no history of violence, they were declared a terrorist organisation. Fulani herdsmen violently murder hundreds of people, this same administeration declares them mere criminals

It is the duty of all of us to call out hypocrisy when it is happening.

Does it really make any difference? Whether IPOB are called terrorist or not we all know they're not, but you wanting the herdsmen to be call terrorist should not be the case to my own opinion. The people of Benue and other states need to sit down and see the pattern of each attack and then find solution for any future attack. I believe there is always a solution to any problem

The point here is that Nigeria has become a place where a president treats his ethnic group in a much different way than he will treats a different ethnic group.

That is hypocrisy and nepotism and should be called out by all well meaning people

the rubbish u typed is just a primitive half-baked rhetoric for the unintellect 5% ipob jews, the ipob officially formed BSS(secret army) in a sovereign state,go try that rubbish in a western country and see whether they will tolerate that nonsense, that's enough of a crime to annihilate any group..u said" operation was aimed at IPOB since there was no serious crime issue in the South East" that is for the delusional fools out there ur trying so hard to convince, they were attacking northerns in SE,searching buses for them and hate speeches targeted at the northerners,is that not a crime?..its one thing for u to say Buhari hasn't done much in term of curbing the fulani menace, but for u to correlate it with the ipob agitation, doesn't make sense!! everything about ipob was terrorism related

IPOB formed a secret Army called BSS? Really? What is the difference between boys scouts, boys brigades, Salvation Army, Redcross, Hisbah and the BSS? They all wear uniforms and salute each other? So what is the difference? Their names?Have you ever seen an Army that is unarmed? Stop talking nonsense, an organisation cannot be an army unless it is armed. The constitution also gives us all the freedom to form association and to belong to an association. There are uncountable organisations in the western world who wear military style clothing. As long as they are not armed, the government does not touch them because they have the right to wear what they like and call themselves whatever name.

IPOB was attacking Northerners? Searching for them on buses? Before or after python dance? IPOB never attacked Notherners or looked for Northerners on buses and those who did only did so out of the anger of seeing their people killed in the name of operation python dance. Im more concerned about what happend before and during Python dance, not what happend after it.

Hate speech is not recognised in the constitution. If one says something that is considered offensive, one can be sued for libel, defamation or even charged with incitement. Hate speech is not what the military was created to fight. The Nigerian Army was not created to go after people for talking.

The main issue is this. How is it that IPOB that has no guns, no history of violence and never killed anyone can have the military deployed against them and tagged terrorists?

But Fulani herdsmen who are currently armed and slaughtering people everywhere are being negotiated with, no military deployment and no terrorist tag?

So the ones who have no guns and didnt kill anyone are treated harshly but the ones killing hundreds of people are treated with consideration?

Incredible!

those association u called are legimately registered within the confinement of their state and weren't causing a nuisance by attacking and abusing innocent people,no state in the SE approved BSS activities nor recognised it by law of the state..its just like the case of indigenuse organisation that fayose made to protect themselves from fulani herdsmen, you see this one is recognised by ekiti state and have the right to their activities as long as they are peaceful without military harassment '

and yess ipob were criminals and armed,do u know even if u hold a stone u are armed!?!,i know ull hate to admit the fact that they were attacking people but I didn't make it up,check the videos of them attacking innocent and soldiers on Twitter and youtube

threating to go to aso rock and come back with the president head, blocking highways and threating those that don't support them etc!! it's that what u call peaceful?!? undecided

the truth is whether u like it or not, ipob is a terrorist organization..yes they have the right to agitate, but what they were doing was totally contrary to the tenants of agitation..check all the seperatives around that got their independence, whether if is through violence

and in no way in my robbutal did I condone fulani herdsmen activity,i totally condemn it..but for u to correlate and make a point out of ipob activity..is totally uncanny!

You dont have any argument. So if an organisation is not registered, the army is brought out to go after them? Let us just assume that everything you said above is correct, how does it make them terrorists? Holding stones? The same video you are talking sbout that they attacked inncent Soldiers, why did you skip the part about the young man the Army shot in the leg in the same video? Threatening to cut of the head of the president, blocking the road and being a nuisance, this for you are the things a terrorist organisation does? So you think that Al qaeda is blocking roads, throwing stones and sticks and being a nuisance? How I wish this was what Boko Haram is doing. There are many people crying in Benue about lost loved ones who wish that herdsmen were only blocking road, making verbal threats and throwing sticks and stones, at least their relatives would still be alive. There are many Somalians who wish that all Al Shabab did was make threats , throw objects and block roads.

The problem with Nigerians is that they do not what terrorism is. Even America and EU who have fought terrorism at all levels have come out to say IPOB is not a terrorist group. Nigerians think with their heads backwards. How can a group a be a terrorist group but they dont have guns and dont kill people? No wonder the Fulani want to kill everyone in Benue, they know that they are not considered terrorists.

yes! that's exactly what I meant, military wrath should be used against them, bcuz not only that they are an illegal entity but also a threat to the existence of nigeria..you should check the definition of terrorism, its anything that causes a threat, its BBS a threat to Nigeria? yes it is! bcuz their activities were not legally approved by a sovereign state and constitution

my friend, terrorism doesn't have to be just guns, bombs and nuclear weapons,ur educated so u should have known this,a mere holding of a stick can be classified as terrorism bcuz u are ARMED!...there are levels of terrorism,it doesn't have to be the al-qeada,boko haram and fulani herdsmen type,a mere hitting someone with a stone can be classified as terrorism him/her

we are not talking about soldiers here but ipob members, even tho I'm not trying to justify what the soldier did,but that doesn't justify and make the activities of ipob legal bcuz of what the soldiers did to them

the likes of al-q,BH,FH are a bigger terrorist compared to IPOB,i admit it but that doesn't make ipob less of a terrorist organization,it's just that there are levels to terrorism...if it was in a western country, those threats will be used against kanu for threating to behead Buhari, illegal blocking of roads and other insults and threats

it doesn't matter whether u commit murder with a gun or stone,it's still murder..same scenario applies with fulani herdsmen and ipob, whether one uses gun and the other uses stones and sticks, they are both terrorist!!

no matter how u try to exonerate ipob members,u can't deny the fact that there was elements of violence activities..so that makes them terrorist base on the definition and activities!

cstr1001:

Terrorism is defined as the art of using terror to force an agenda.

A threat to something does not make it a terror. Terrorists don't use sticks and stones because terrorists deal in mass casualties.

Catalaonia is a threat to Spanish unity, but that does not make them a terror group because they do not apply terror to force their agenda.

Get an education instead of constituting an online nuisance.

Exactly. To be regarded as a terrorist organisation, one has to be using violence to further their goal.

Take Fulani herdsman for example, they use violence to enforce their livestock farming. But IPOB is not using violence to get Biafra. The only violence IPOB has been involved with is clash with the authorities.

Fulani Herdsmen are nigerians and are northerners. Benue is north. Benue should give peace a chance and stop beating the drum of war! How can you not alow Fulani cows graze in peace in a one indivisible nigeria and one indivisible north? Now you are talking about arming yourselves....this war you people of Benue is asking for won't be good when it finally starts.

Benue should channel their grievances through their senators, house of reps and government officials. Arming themselves against Herdsmen is not in the constitution of nigeria. They can form a new political party and send those who share their ideology of arming themselves and removing themselves from "one indivisible north" to represent them.
