Aliko Dangote, President and Chief Executive
Officer of Dangote Industries Limited has
for the seventh time been named Forbes
richest man in Africa.
Dangote retained his position unrivalled
with an upsurge in his net worth from a
$100 million to $12.2 billion Forbes said:
“Dangote is looking beyond cement –his
most valuable asset – and has been
investing in a fertiliser production company
and a large oil refinery. Dangote Fertiliser is
expected to start operations in the second
quarter this year.”
Just recently, Dangote was the only African
to appear in Bloomberg’s world 50 best
persons in the year 2017.
While prominent billionaires in Nigeria
failed to make it to the list, Globacom’s boss,
Mike Adenuga made it to the 5th position in
Africa with a net worth of $5.3 billion and
Africa’s Richest female, Folorunsho Alakija
occupied the 15th spot with a net worth of
$1.6billion she raked up from oil source.
Number two spot came the South African
diamond mining heir Nicky Oppenheimer
with a $7.7 net worth, giving South Africa
the monopoly of highest billionaires in
Africa.
