In Liberia, outgoing President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf was expelled from the Unity Party with four other members. A decision that follows the rumors of support from the president to George Weah, the opponent of Joseph Boakai, vice president of Johnson Sirleaf and unfortunate candidate of the party in the presidential election.


The circumstances of this exclusion remain unclear, according to Liberian observer Abdullai Kamara, director of the Liberia Holding Consortium Media: “There have been rumors that outgoing President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf would not have supported Vice President Jospeh Boakai who was the candidate of the Unity Party. During the campaign, Boakai had also stated in an interview that Sirleaf's support for the party was unsatisfactory. What I notice is that the decision to exclude President Sirleaf from the Unity Party was taken without her being invited to speak on the subject or that an investigation be opened. And on the release of the party, there is no date indicating when this decision was made.
