Today is Nigerian Armed Forces remembrance day. Let us post pictures to appreciate and remember our fallen and living heroes.
Having laid and continue to lay so costly a Sacrifice upon the altar of PEACE and FREEDOM they deserve all praises and adorations poured on them.

May our heavenly creator assuage the pain of their immediate loved ones and grant them the solemn pride that is rightfully theirs.

*Let's take a moment to remember Lieutenant Oluwafemi Odushina.* cry cry

He was killed on Tuesday, the 13th of May, 2014. Boko Haram ambushed the late Oluwafemi with his troops around the Chibok area where they had gone to search for and rescue the abducted Chibok girls.

Following his death, the news got to the military camp and reportedly led to a mutiny by some soldiers of the 7th Division of the Nigerian Army against the General Officer Commanding (GOC), Major-General Abubakar Mohammed who was then redeployed.

Lt. Odushina Oluwafemi was an old student of the Air Force Secondary School, Ikeja, Lagos State. He served with the United Nations Peace Keeping Forces in Darfur and later went to Pakistan for an additional training course. In March 2014, he was deployed to Maiduguri where he was killed defending the nation’s integrity.

How 83-year-old retired soldier sleeps under bridge for 17 years

Sule Yusuf, an 83-year-old man, has been sleeping under the Oshodi Bridge in Lagos state since 1999 after losing contact with his family.
Yusuf, who hails from Igboora, Oyo state, claims to have retired from the Nigerian Army, and lost contact with his wife and children, but decided to stay in Lagos, The Punch reports.

The octogenarian had been spared during constant raids of the area by policemen after he explained to them that he was a retired soldier and was allegedly deserted by his family members.

Yusuf, who once worked as a security man at the Mosafejo motor park, was relieved of his duty a few years ago due to old age.

The 83-year-old, after reportedly retiring from the army in 1979, had moved to the Makoko, Yaba area of Lagos, until his rent expired and he was asked to leave.

He has been staying in Mosafejo Motor Park during the day, and sleeping under the Oshodi bridge.

Speaking with The Punch on Thursday, February 4, the retiree said he last saw his wife, Beatrice, and his two children Morili and Jimoh around 1999 before they relocated to Owerri, Imo state, where his wife hailed from.

Yusuf said he desires to be reunited with his family members and needs some financial help to live a better life.

Hamzat Sanusi, the assistant secretary of the Mosafejo motor park, said the octogenarian was allowed to stay because they saw the military ID card on him before he misplaced it.
Sanusi added that it was the union which had been bearing the burden of Yusuf’s survival.

*Let's take a moment to remember Lieutenant Colonel Abu Ali.*

Muhammad Abu Ali, a lieutenant colonel, whom Boko Haram dreaded, is dead.

Ali led one of the army’s fiercest-ever battles with Boko Haram, in February 2015, culminating in the recapture of Baga town in Borno state.

Sani Usman, army spokeman, said he was killed in an encounter with the insurgents on Friday.

The deceased was was granted accelerated promotion from rank of major to lieutenant-colonel in September 2015, for his courageous performance in a series of the army’s engagements with Boko Haram.

Usman added that four soldiers were killed, but that troops killed 14 of the insurgents who attacked a location of the army in Borno state.

“Yesterday at about 10.00pm suspected Boko Haram terrorists attacked a 119 Battalion Nigerian army location at Mallam Fatori, northern Borno state. The troops fought gallantly and repelled the attack, killing 14 Boko Haram terrorists,” he said.

“Unfortunately, we lost an officer and four soldiers, while four other soldiers sustained various degrees of injuries during the encounter. One of those killed in action, was Lieutenant Colonel Muhammad Abu Ali, the Commanding Officer of 272 Task Force Tank Battalion.”

During TheCable’s investigative trip to the theatre of war, soldiers, majority of whom have built an unwanted reputation for always criticising the army hierarchy, spoke highly of Ali’s professionalism.

One of the soldiers, who partook in the Baga operation, narrated his experience to TheCable .

“In the case Baga, when it was recaptured from Boko Haram, Abu Ali, who led that operation, told the soldiers that they should not worry, that they should only do five percent of the job, that he was going to do 95% of the job with the tanks,” he had said.

“And that was exactly what happened. He did most of the work with the tanks. He was a major at that time and his promotion after the operation was automatic because he performed very well. One smallish guy like that o.”

I foresee a situation whereby about 150,000 retired military officers will join me to agitate that the Senate should adjust their pay, to enable the employment of about 5million jobless Nigerians or be scrapped via a Referendum.
People you claim to be representing can't be jumping into the Lagos Lagoon while you sit your fat asses in a cosy Chamber importing N300m worth of bullet proof jeep for your pleasure.
As a retired Army Major, I've been surviving on an annual pay of about N1.2m with my entire family, while a silly Godforsaken citizen pockets N50m per month? For doing what? This is no longer acceptable to me.
We bled for this country and we can no longer sit bye and suffer in silence while a moronic citizen dances his brains away on camera in a very scandalous and very shameful case of forgery. What are we trying to say ?
That those of us who never embezzled a dime, not forged our academic papers nor partook in violent cultism with shedding of innocent blood, are fools condemned to a life of penury for our patriotism?
Enough is enough !!

Married with 6 children.
Dependants and aged Mother.
No criminal record what so ever both during 16 years in service and the past 13 years in medical retirement.
Yet living in penury with family, paying University and Secondary School fees via the assistance of relations, friends and military coursemates.
And a Nigerian citizen pockets N50m per month for doing what for this country?
This is no longer acceptable to me and i"m appealing to all retired military officers and soldiers who are also suffering in silence all over the country to join me in sending a protest letter to the President of Nigeria and Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces to please activate the process for a referendum for the scrapping of one of the two houses of the National Assembly, especially the Senate.
Their emoluments could be saved by the country to employ at least 5million poor Nigerians on the current minimum wage of N20k per month.
The emoluments of serving and retired military, police, DSS and other security officers can also be increased from this savings.
I have no doubt that this humble request of patriots will receive favourable attention from the NSA for the approval of the Commander-In-Chi
