madridsta007: Which white man? They are just boiling crude the same way local gin is produced. There are better technologies - including catalytic cracking after fractionating. The method they use is wasteful, and extremely dangerous to the environment. Whiteman will jail you 200 years if you try this in the US or Europe 1 Like 1 Share |

muthmayinnah: And the SOUTH WEST that helped installed an illiterate to power in 21st century is not the problem.. And the SOUTH WEST that always defend/support the same north you mentioned while betraying their fellow SOUTH is not the problem? Sincerely, SW is the problem of Nigeria because if they have merged with other south, I don't think that no northerner will be a president of Nigeria or at least they can be formidable in restructuring or dividing.. But as usual, an average afonja not all is always a betrayal.. Pathetic 1 Like |

mesoprogress: The same white man will give a job to a brilliant hacker who’s hacked into a government protected system and left no trace— he won’t let the talent either go to waste or to be used for crime again. There’s nothing special that the white man does; absolutely nothing. It’s just trying, no matter how hard, to make decisions via logic over emotions. Why should the army destroy what can be commercialised and turn into a money-making venture which will add tax to the economy, bring in jobs, etc? Makes no sense. 4 Likes |

madridsta007: Have you heard of black soot in Rivers State ? They are spoiling the environment. Nothing to commercialize, you won't understand. Refineries are not generally very profitable even with advanced methods. These guys method are very primitive. Nothing to commercialize |

mesoprogress: The memory card you have in your phone or camera didn’t start off as a tiny device. The first memory device was so big that a cargo plane had to carry it. If the inventors had baulked and complained at the size and inconvenience of the component, we probably wouldn’t have had the development we had today. Of course the local refineries can be modified and redesigned. Do you realise that, during the Biafran war, it was local refineries that was used? Did you hear/ or read of mass deaths due to local refining? What would have happened if that technology was developed? Or if the local refineries being blown up (another environmental hazard) is made to develop? |

madridsta007: There's nothing to modify. I've worked long in niger delta. These illegal refineries are a mess. Graduate students of FUTO can design much better refining towers if you so desperately want traditional refining methods. We can encourage mediocrity when we have technology to do better. Illegal refineries are a mess to the environment, there's no special technology they use that needs to be modified. They boil the damn crude, extract bad fuels and dump residue in the creeks. You guys don't understand |

I hope you don't expect me to clap for you for destroying illegal refineries? I would have clapped for you if you've told me that these men operating these refineries without any knowledge of petroleum engineering have been sent abroad by the government to acquire up-to-date skill on crude oil refinary and that the government have either upgraded the illegal refineries to modern ones or that the government has build their own refineries. If none of these things were done, there should be no need to be proud. This is a country where people who have the natural endowment/talent to move the country forward are tagged criminals and are kept hidden in the dark so that THEY can continue with their nefarious acts |

mesoprogress: I work in a field that’s made me to see old steam engines— and the environmental mess and noise pollution their engines produced. Today we have high speed trains— noiseless, electric machines. I agree that it is a problem but I disagree that modification can not be done on it. I disagree that strict controls can not be implemented on it. I disagree that this ingenuity, rough as it may seem, can not be transformed. |
