Court Restrains Efcc From Arresting Ibori by kosovo(m): 6:45am On Apr 15, 2010 |
AN Asaba High Court presided over by Justice I. N. Buba yesterday restrained the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from arresting former Delta State Governor James Ibori. In an ex-parte motion filed by Chief Ibori's counsel Augustine Alegeh (SAN) less than 24 hours after the anti-graft agency had declared the erstwhile Delta State helmsman wanted over allegation of corrupt practices and money laundering during his time in office between 1999 and 2007, he prayed the court to stop his client's harassment pending the hearing and determination of the applicant's substantive suit. Joined in the suit are the Attorney General of the Federation, the EFCC, Inspector General of Police and the Director, State Security Service (SSS) as the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th respondents in that order Mr. Champion Oboh swore both the affidavit of urgency, the affidavit in support of the motion ex-parte and the further affidavit in support of the motion ex-parte. At yesterday's sitting, Justice Buba ordered that the motion on notice be served on all respondents, before ordering that the motion on notice be taken on Tuesday. And in a statement in Abuja yesterday his spokesman, Tony Eluemunor, Ibori also faulted his invitation by proxy. He faulted the invitation extended to him by the EFCC through the Delta State government, insisting that it was a nullity. Ibori said no government agency, including the EFCC, worth its salt would invite anyone for questioning vide a proxy even as he insisted that none of the said invitations was passed to him. According to his Media Adviser, Ibori said there was a clearly defined procedure for inviting any person for interrogation. He pointed out that the said procedure was not complied with by the EFCC before it declared him wanted. He insisted that statements issued by EFCC's Head of Media and Publicity, Femi Babafemi constituted a lame and unsuccessful attempt to disguise the commission's malicious intention towards him. ^^^^ Onanethief Ibori, the drowning man is clutching at the straw called Asaba kangaroo court to evade arrest,no shaking,DLESF should file a counter motion to quash that restraining order and the EFCC move in immediately thereafter to arrest the IDIOT Onanethief, don't you get it?the noose is getting irrevicably tighter around your neck, and NOBODY CAN SAVE YOU this time around.Yara dead, your protector is gone Come to think of it,the 8 years Ibori was governor of Delta state,he could not build a high court anywhere in Delta state, but just because his looting backside was arrested he prevailed on his accomplice in crime,Emma Uduaghan to speedily build one kangaroo court in Asaba for them to manipulate No shaking, after Ibori,na Uduaghan |

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMM, I gues this one reason why Farida wanted a special court for corruption, where the judges would be trained or how else those one explain a court restrainig an investigative arm from arresting a suspect just because the suspect can pay a lawyer to apply. Those looting follow any due process and how do you invite someone you cannot readilly locate. |

How about PETER ODILI former Governor of rivers state. This man could be worst than Ibori. Ask any body just about anybout that ever lived in port harcourt or visited. This man created the militancy and anarchy in rivers state, did not improve any infrastructure . My troiuble with all these, is that no body has ever arrested this man. |

Re: Court Restrains Efcc From Arresting Ibori by Vindy: 3:22pm On Apr 15, 2010 |
@ Lafocuze, it rly beats my imagination that nobody has ever mentioned Peter Odili because he did worst things, we port harcourt residence knows the damage he did not just 2 Rivers state only, but the whole of the Niger Delter, we'have not 4gotten the assasinations of prominent Rivers indigenes. May GOD not let him go scot free. |

It is another call to question the role of the judiciary in strengthening or frustrating our democratic efforts. There are many Ibori's all over the nation.People have been using EFCC to cover up crimes. Have you forgotten the usual sequence: alleged petition to EFCC; arrest and arraignment before a court; bail and further, further and God knows adjournments until Naija people will forget the case. |

Exactly what does it cost to buy a 'federal' judge in Nigeria these days? Ibori makes it appear so cheap. |
Re: Court Restrains Efcc From Arresting Ibori by Rheinmetal(m): 5:36pm On Apr 15, 2010 |
Honourable Justices granting kangaroo injunctions to pervert the course of justice should know that they are going against the grain of their calling. Where is the honour in that? Mr. Ibori, its just a temporary respite. Your day would surely come whether in a court of law or in the court of jungle justice. |
Re: Court Restrains Efcc From Arresting Ibori by oge4real(f): 5:53pm On Apr 15, 2010 |
If EFCC did not they do the right thing in declaring him wantd before an official summon, thats too bad. They must try and remedy it so that this thief will stop disturbing our peace. |
Re: Court Restrains Efcc From Arresting Ibori by Spyker: 6:48pm On Apr 15, 2010 |
I said it, money can do all things including by Judgement. If EFCC like let them appeal to the Supreme Court, they won't get anything. The Court of Nigeria is their to serve and protect only the rich and influential in as much as you are will to share your loot with them. Bode George never share some of the loot that is why he was embarrassed with 2 (little) years in a VIP cell. |
Re: Court Restrains Efcc From Arresting Ibori by Eziachi: 7:02pm On Apr 15, 2010 |
In every other part of the world, if you happen to accuse a person of any wrong doing, he/she will beg you to charge him to court, so that he/she can clear their name of any wrong doing. But in Nigeria, an accused will run or dash to a court soliciting help not to appear in another court to clear a charge. That is judiciary, Nigerian version. I will guess that Bode George and his friends now cooling off inside kirirkiri must be kicking themselves that no one told them about the generous Asaba courts and judges before they decided to go and face a judge in Lagos and ended up in the pit. |

Let us all look at it from the other dimension. doesnt this show that EFCC is so deceitful and take us for granted? Just for them to prepare a letter and send thru a messenger to deliver at Ibori's residence or office, they cant. rather they did it thru proxy means. are they so scared of the man they cant even approach his gate? even if it takes the messenger to throw it in the compound and PICK RACE. then u go fit talk say u invite the man true true abi na transport money no dey? |

Re: Court Restrains Efcc From Arresting Ibori by Nobody: 11:36pm On Apr 15, 2010 |
Only in Nigeria that you wil see an agency like EFCC declaring somebody wanted before sending letter of summons. The letter was later sent through a proxy. What a shame! Deceit. Political witch hunting. Who is deceivin who? EFCC is just making Ibori more popular thereby telling Nigerians that Ibori is really a political gladiator. Enough of this irritating noise about one man. If they have any substantive evidence against him then move swiftly and jail him or 'sharap'. It's high time we stopped this selective justice of Obj, ribadu & co. |
