I applied late, by then the mail provided wasn’t going through anymore. The portal came to my rescue.

i think that mail stuff aint sh*t,i dint apply through mail,only filled the form online and i got an invite,so obviously the portal was the main application.

Maybe Engrs aren't shortlisted yet or maybe only a few was.

Portal, email or both obviously didn't affect the shortlisting process
