On Friday, 26th January, 2018, delegates of the Young Pharmacists’ Group (PSN-YPG) Ogun State; Pharm. Tunde Bada, Pharm. Emem Bassey and Pharm. Dupe Mojisola led by the State coordinator, Pharm. Onwuka Chinedu Kester held a Cervical Cancer awareness talk at Stephens Centre International College, Obantoko, Abeokuta in commemoration of the Cervical Cancer Awareness week.

The Anchor of the program Mrs. Ojoye welcomed and introduced the Ogun State PSN-YPG delegates.

The Principal, Mr. Afolabi in his warm welcome speech expressed his joy and gratitude to the Young Pharmacists’ Group (YPG-NG) and urged the staff and students to pay rapt attention.

Pharm. Onwuka expressed his gratitude to the school management, staff and students for the platform to address staff and students alike.
He described cervical cancer as a “silent killer” caused mainly by infection with the Human pappilomavirus (HPV) and the third most common malignancy in women.
Cervical cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths for women in developing countries.

Pharm. Onwuka also talked about the causes of cervical cancer, diagnosis and how it can be prevented, stating that regular screening is a reliable method of preventing cervical cancer in women.

In conclusion, he advised the pupils to go for regular tests when they come of age. He also encouraged the female teachers who hadn't previously done a pap test to go to the nearing testing centre to get it done.

In her vote of thanks, Mrs Osemeke Mercy expressed gratitude to PSN-YPG Ogun state for the initiative and stated that the awareness talk was timely. She said the school looked forward to and will be open for more of such initiatives.
