A group, the Northern Friends of the South-South, is mobilising support to ensure that Acting President Goodluck Jonathan contests the 2011 presidential election. It has also kicked against zoning of the presidential ticket by the Peoples Democratic Party to the North in 2011, saying that it was not a constitutional matter but a political arrangement. Speaking at a press briefing in Lagos on Thursday, the Founder and President of NFSS, Alhaji Suleiman Yerima, advised the PDP not to use zoning as an instrument to exclude Jonathan. He said, “For the PDP, it will amount to shooting itself in the foot by sticking to a zoning arrangement that will be counter-productive for the party at this time that Nigerians are looking forward to good and purposeful governance.” http://www.punchng.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art20100416310290 |
