Men do the dangerous jobs - There are more men in hazardous occupations that potentiate death, than there are women. Jobs like working in underground mining tunnels, working in oil rigs, constructing and positioning masts and other tall buildings, working in the military, and other dangerous occupations are disproportionately dominated by men.

Men are also more likely to die from stress related diseases due to the enormous burden that they shoulder as bread winners of their families, especially in an African context. Men have to strive to attain financial status in their careers and provide for their families simultaneously. This isn't an easy task. And this point is also tied to the disproportionally high level of suicide rates in men around the world, which is another answer to your question.

Women also tend to live 8 years longer than men on average because testosterone, the male hormone, decreases the life span of men.

I hope the ignorant, rabid Nairaland feminists are reading this.

Well, men have a lower life expectancy than women due to a varying number of factors.

Men also generally marry women who they're older than.

So, if a woman generally lives longer and marries an older man you get more widows than widowers.
