What is VSAT? (Very Small Aperture Terminal).  In terms of technology and how could this help to set up ISP, IAP, ICP etc?
Who are the providers of VSAT?
What is the typical Service Licence Agreement (SLA) per month
Is there an althernative to VSAT?
Who are the ISP's in Nigeria today? And, which one of them is excellent and which one is formidable?
What are the deregulations in telecom industry today in Nigeria?

NB
=========
ISP (Internet Service Provider)
IAP (Internet Application Provider)
SLA (Service Licence Agreement)
ICP (Internet Content Provider)

Hey, VSAT stands for Very Small Aperture Terminal, it's basically a low cost shared media system. Found more info on VSAT here, I'd also check out Wikipedia. I'm looking into something like this atm, but in Australia. Here it's said to be fairly low-cost, but don't know what it's like where you are.

Re: VSAT in Nigeria by mikesleek(m): 6:20am On Aug 30, 2009
Gilat is ok. I've used them on a number of my sites, only some of their agents tend to be dubious. Fiber link to benin is workable but expensive. You could holla me on 08024981478 for details.
Re: VSAT in Nigeria by tunde300us(m): 5:54pm On Aug 30, 2009
This guy say he wants something cheap, compared to vsat maybe you should just stick to ur GILAT advise which i know is also a mess up too.

i have been using vsats for my internet connection for over 4 years, i have used iway/mweb for most of the time which is undeniably the best isp in nigeria but extremly expensive since they offer dedicated bandwiths with volume limitations, however i have discovered that using isp abroad is much better and cheaper, just installed 3 sites with a uk internet service provider and they sites are browsing at incredible speeds at affordable rates. 08053917101

Thanks guys. can anyone with a current knowledge of the state of internet in Nigeria kindly provide anwsers to these questions ? Is internet services via vsat still rendable in lagos? Is vsat technology preferable to say fibre ? What would be the startup capital to start an internet cafe based on Vsat or fibre. What are the license costs ?
Be blessed .

80,000 Naira for I MB per month looks outrageous to me. Its this price realistic. I was assumming such amount of money would buy you at least 10 mb. For crying out loud what does it cost to surf the web for say 30 minutes in an average internet cafe ?

I would like to get to the bottom of this. Thank in anticipation
