[size=14pt]Jos Killings: Group drags Jang, Onovo before ICJ criminal court[/size]

A Kaduna-based human rights organization, the Civil Rights Congress has dragged Governor Jonah Jang and the Plateau State Government before the International Court of Justice at the Hague seeking to enforce the fundamental human rights of residents of the state affected by the recent ethno-religious crises in the state.

The CRC also joined the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ogbonaya Onovo in the suit.

CRC Director of Publicity, Suleiman Ahmed told newsmen on Wednesday in Kaduna that after assessing the recent spate of violence and killings in Plateau state, the human rights organization filed a case against the defendants at the ICJ in accordance with the rules of the court.

The CRC spokesman said also said that the human rights body would be seeking the prosecution of the perpetrators of the Jos killings and the payment of compensation to the victims.

Ahmed disclosed that the ICJ had already acknowledged the receipt of the CRC court processes and documents and had said that it would address the matter in accordance with the rules of the court.
