Tinubu Calls For In-depth Probe Of Murder ! by wales(m): 8:28am On Apr 28, 2010
The former Lagos State governor, Bola Tinubu, has implored security personnel in the country to effect a thorough investigation into the brutal killing of the Nations judiciary correspondent, Edo Sule-Ubagwu.

Mr. Tinubu, who spoke to aviation correspondents at the presidential wing of the Murtala Mohammed Airport (MMA) on Tuesday, said that news of the journalist’s murder should not be taken lightly.

“The security personnel have to put every effort to really discover the killers and bring them to book,” he said. “We need to go further and not just apprehending those murderers and the killers, but find the reasons, unearth what are the causes, who are the friends that might have done that, and what sort of assignment was he doing.” The former governor added that despite the murder of the journalist, Nigeria’s reputation must be guarded, adding that it now appears that journalists need protection from the police.

“It was just unfortunate that he (Sule-Ubagwu) was killed in his prime and everything must be done to protect the reputation of this country,” he said. “When you have people being murdered in daylight robbery, eliminated in a cold-blooded gangsterism, it is very dangerous for our country.”

Edo Sule-Ubagwu was shot dead last Saturday by unknown gunmen who invaded his 39 Church Street, Bameke Egbeda home at about 6.30pm.

Mr. Tinubu also expressed his sympathy with the family of the deceased, stressing that it is time for the police to intensify efforts in combating crime against reporters.

“The police should do everything possible and there should be further tightening of security around that people (journalists),” he said. “May his soul rest in peace and I believe God will stop this kind of thing in our country.”
