^^^Hi honey.

I will check a few places for you.

I will look closely at the email you sent me.

By the way, why do you want it custom printed?
Re: Madlady I Need U!!!!!!!!!!!!! by madlady(f): 2:11pm On Apr 22, 2010
I  managed to make a sneaky phone call to a supplier I used in my merchandising days.

Sadly he cannot do a run for that amount of fabric, but he's given me the contact details of a company in the US that can do it.

The company's contact details are, ny fashion center.
Pls go to the contact section (the sites quite hard to navigate) they have polyester (silky type) they have so much fabric that I am sure
you will find what you need. They also work very quickly from what I've heard.

I am also including the details of a wonderful company who custom dye pure fabrics, silks linens and more.
This company may not suit your needs, they use pure dyes and fabrics but you never know undecided and they are wonderful. See  pic.

Ure a doll! kiss kiss kiss
But I cant seem to find fabric that consists of the material I want in those colors.
The Fabric would have to be printed in that order to make the dress?
I wanted it to be printed like that so it would be smooth.
What do you think of my designs? embarassed

But i wont be in New York till July undecided

^^    Hmm I printed out your designs

My friends and myself have discussed them.

The bikini maybe risky, for a young child or very small busted girl fine, the average black girl would have
problems wearing it. You would need very firm fabric for the bust. The white stripe on the bust front undecided
The Nigerian flag idea for a bikini undecided

The 2ND dress, I just do not like it.  lipsrsealed

The 3rd dress, I LOVE LOVE IT, WE WOULD ALL WEAR IT. It would be great short, the short may sell more.
I think you are making a rod for your own back by getting the fabric printed up.
I have seen this  style, you use the colour blocks for the construction/shaping of the dress.
The last colour block which you have as black, this would be how you tie or button the dress up.

The fabric could be stiff silk (like a fabric called wild silk )
The fabric could be a polyester silk.
The fabric could be Ankara (that would be fab)
Or just plain cottons in the colour blocks.

Are you in Nigeria? try getting a sample made, see how it holds the bust  and how it lays on the neck.

Your dressmaker may prefer you to get the fabric in one colour for ease of construction, make 1 and see .

The Theme for the First Collection is Nigerian Flag, I was also told to do a tankini, but I was unsure.
For the longest time I wanted flag clothing, like the jamacians or Cubans do.
Its going to be for purchase at the NYC Reunion this july, thats why Im on a time roll embarassed

What type of fabric do you suggest?
Is Lycra not strong enough?

madlady:

The 2ND dress, I just do not like it. lipsrsealed
The 2nd one is not a dress, it is a silky blouse, more like a scarf blouse that is a halter and has straps in back.
It is more of a party shirt or a nice dinner shirt.
I was worried mostly about this shirt because I was told blending would work with two differnt fabrics but I wanted this blouse to be really smooth, and blending two patterns might mess up the flow of the garment.
Kinda like this
but the back would be more open.

Thanks, I gotten advice and they said it would be better for me to have seperate fabrics.
The black part was actually supposed to be white.
I didnt want the dress to be silky, but s soft polyester blend. the polyester silk is for the blouse.

Whats Ankara? what does it feel like?

madlady:

Honestly i wish I was in nigeria. Im in the Us now.
Im trying to get a sample made but the problem is fabric. sad

AH so they said you should use separate fabrics, that's what I mean about colour blocks,
these are colours in separate fabrics, like I said.

The Jamaican colours are hardly worn, maybe a theme thing or dancehall events embarassed embarassed lipsrsealed.

I did wonder about the 2ND design, so it's a top, that pic shows it much more clearly. wink

Now that your have decided to use different fabrics half your battles won.
You only need to decided on the texture you want.

Ankara maybe what I call "wax" look at a thread I have started. I think it's too stiff for what you want.

Your colours are green and white?

Why do you want the dress to be "soft" pls explain?.

yea, and I was worried more about this one as I wanted the blouse to be smooth.
embarassed will it work with two different fabrics?

madlady :

Now that your have decided to use different fabrics half your battles won.
You only need to decided on the texture you want.

For the Swimsuit- Nylon Lycra
100% Polyester (Silky Feel) for the Blouse
92% Polyester and 8% Spandex for the Dress

Where can I get good quality for a fair price?
embarassed
I'm Driving to Atlanta next weekend to meet my seamstress, I was looking to get the fabrics soon so I can ship them to her so she can get started early.

Is that the way they make for Attire in Nigeria?
No I dont think that would work but Ill check out your thread.
kiss

madlady:

Green and white are the Colors of the Flag of Nigeria\
I didnt want the dress too silky nor too hard and heavy
I wanted it light and smooth for summer.

No Probs.

Lets start with the top, yes separate fabrics can work, that's the way most are done.

I have seen lots of striped green/white fabric, even some on ebay,
but the stripes are not as nice as your design.

Your designs are "COLOUR BLOCKS" not common stripes. kiss

The dress you have just shown looks more like a "jersey"  but I see what you want.

Are you sure you do not want a light cotton mix?.

I will check a few more sources and come up with some options.

PLEASE EXCUSE ME ON THE BIKINI, THAT'S TOO DIFFICULT FOR ME embarassed embarassed embarassed,
I do  not want to give the wrong advice.
Re: Madlady I Need U!!!!!!!!!!!!! by platinumnk(f): 5:49pm On Apr 23, 2010
^^Thanks Love
About the Bikini I think I would have a polyester lining, that would help it stay stronger.

Polyester is lighter than Cotton, and the most of the maxi dresses I saw had either a rayon/spandex blend
or a polyester/spandex blend.

Now to figure where to get good quailty fabrics that wont break the bank  embarassed
Re: Madlady I Need U!!!!!!!!!!!!! by madlady(f): 5:58pm On Apr 23, 2010
^^ You have very light weight cottons, most of the maxi dresses from the high brands do use pure fabrics.
But the blend your after does not crease so I see it's merits.

I will get back to you tomorrow with some online shops that send out samples.
Call them and get swatches sent to you ASAP.

@Platinumnk

We are going to come to blows over your dress fabric angry angry angry grin kiss,

I've contacted 4 friends who are full blown buyers, one works for M&S.

The your fabric content you gave me for your dress IS classed as " jersey" fabric.
I said the dress you've put on this thread looked like "jersey" fabric.
WE may use different words for fabrics in the UK (not jersey like a jumper).

92% polyester 8% spandex

This company called "KOSHTEX"  sells it for $4.50, it's listed as "i.t.y spandex".
They are in Los Angeles.
This is what they say about it"this beautiful fashionable fabric is suitable for high end blouses and dresses"

I love that white dress!!

Mad lady God bless you,
I love u from the bottom of my heart.

One question
I was browsing the web yesterday and I stumbled upon Spandex World.
It has great options for my Swimsuit and my Maxi Dress!
But you posted 4.50 a Yard, online it has 8 Dol.
Do I call that special number to get the discount?

And how many yards on average for a
Maxi Dress

A Silky Blouse

And a Bikini/ Tankini?

Thanks again Love,
you have saved me,

I'm grateful.

I'll dedicate my first sale to God, my mom and you kiss kiss kiss kiss
Re: Madlady I Need U!!!!!!!!!!!!! by madlady(f): 6:58am On Apr 25, 2010
Actually I did not quote "Spandex World"
I thought that their green which is called "KELLY GREEN" would be too shiny for you.
Ive  just checked, it's $8.00, but it's only 45 inches wide. undecided Buy more than you really need.
That fabric is more stretchy than the fabric you asked me to source, it's much stronger than T.SHIRT fabric.

If you go for this fabric you will need to buy more because it's only 45 inches wide so.

4 yards for the full maxi dress.

2  yards for the blouse (using normal 100% polyester)

2 yards for the Tankini (if the fabric is 45 inches or less wide) 3 yards for spare.

DO CHECK "SPANDEX WAREHOUSE" FOR YOUR MAXI-DRESS, THE FABRIC IS VERY CHEAP $3.05
YOU COULD MAKE 1 MORE SAMPLE,YOU WOULD ONLY NEED 8 YARDS undecidedIT'S VERY WIDE.

YOU MUST REMEMBER YOU WILL NEED SOME OF THE FABRIC IN WHITE.

I upper-cased the above so that this info stands out (I am not shouting kiss)

Ohh ok, I just saw spandex and ran with ut,
I didnt want t shirt fabric, I wanted something that was smooth and soft like the white dress you posted above.
I will check the Spandex Warehouse Today.

I have a question- I checked many sources and I was quoted
3 Yards for a Maxi Dress
2 Yards for the Blouse
2 Yards for the Tankini/ Bikini

I just got off the phone with my friend in Atlanta, and she confirmed again that I will need about 3 yards for the maxi dress, now I have a question, Why Are your numbers so high per dress?

Is there something Im doing wrong.

And also since Im Buying Seperate Green and White Fabrics, My friend in Atlanta told me that I divide the need by half.

For Example a Maxi Dress- 3 Yards-
so Green 1 and a half yards
and White 1 and a half yards

Is that correct?
Or Should it be 3 Yards Each?

Re: Madlady I Need U!!!!!!!!!!!!! by madlady(f): 5:55pm On Apr 26, 2010
Ok I really could not tell the shade of the greens, so go with what's  suitable.

The amount of fabric I quoted was for fabric 36 inches wide wink
so if 58/60 ,I would go for 4yards (depending on how tall and large the person is)
I also go for a very full maxi, not the skimpy fit. wink

In fairness I always over buy, just for room to maneuver.
I hate to buy too little with coloured fabrics, the next roll always comes up slightly different.

The designs, are the colours exactly half and half? (the blouse isn't half and half)

Check with your dressmaker, remember to tell her how wide the fabric is.

Check back later, tell me exactly how wide the fabric is.

The Swimsuit has more Green than white, but the rest are mostly color blocks.
Its Nigerian Flag Theme.

In three Different Garments, for the Nigerian Reunion.  embarassed

I called my seamstress, but she was busy, Ill try calling later.

I called Spandex World and they also quoted me 3 yards for the dress, 2 Yards for the Blouse, and 2 Yards for the Swimsuit Each.

Now Is it 3 yards per color or total?
