The Delta State Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, will on Wednesday, February 28th flag off the 2018 Measles Vaccination Campaign at the Oleh Mini Stadium.

The Chairman, Delta State Primary Health Care Development Agency (DSPHCDA), Dr Isiomah Okobah, disclosed this today during an advocacy visit to the Orodje of Okpe in His Palace in Orerokpe.

Dr Okobah who was represented by the Director, Community Development, Social Mobilization and Advocacy, Dr Francis Onojeta, said that the Governor, placed high premium in the campaign’s success to achieve at least 95 percent coverage in the State.

Dr Okobah who was received by Chiefs and President Generals from all the villages in Okpe Local Government Area, educated them on the measles diseases and enjoined them to help disseminate the measles campaign coming up from 1st to 13th March 2018 to their subjects.

The Advocacy visit was an interactive one as the Chiefs asked questions on the measles diseases and other health challenges.

In a related development, the Agency, led by the Chairman, Dr Isioma Okobah went on an advocacy visit to the Delta State House Of Assembly House Committee on Health.

The Chairman, House Committee on Health, Hon. Dr Alphonsus Ojo commended the Agency for the visit and sued for synergy between the it and the Committee saying that healthcare delivery was an important aspect of human existence.

A member of the Committee, Hon. Barr Orezi Esievo, charged the Agency to supervise the Primary Health Centres, accusing the operators of the centres in the LGAs of charging caregivers during routine Immunization.

She advised the Agency to devise strategies of bringing culprits to book, adding that such sharp practices discouraged parents and caregivers from taking their children and wards to access Immunization services.

Earlier, the Chairman, Dr Okobah said that the measles was a vaccine preventable deadly disease that contributed to the high morbidity and mortality rate among under five (5) children.

Dr. Okobah said that measles disease had been penciled for elimination by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Other members of the committee who were at the visit included Hon. Angela Nwaka and Hon. Festus Okoh, who used the occasion to pledge their support to the measles campaign and promised to convey the dates of the exercise to other distinguished members of the Assembly.
