A river is currently on fire following an explosion which is said to have been caused by an oil pipeline or crude products in Okpare community of Delta state. According to an online report, the fire outbreak started since yesterday and is yet to put out by the officials of the fire and emergency services. Facebook user, Ibebe Rufus Akpobome who shared pictures of the inferno, is calling on the appropriate authorities to do the needful. Below is what he wrote; As we speak... Okpare in Olumu Kingdom is on fire... Smoke everywhere as a pipeline or illegally refined crude products has been set on fire. This fire has been on since yesterday constituting environmental pollution to Okpare-Olomu and it's environs. I wish to humbly call on the government and all relevant authorities to come to the aid of the people. My country don't care about global warming, all we care for is the continuous flow of the oil and will bomb any hindrance to the flow of our source of unity! 6 Likes 2 Shares |

This is what our people suffer everyday due to oil exploration and exploitation. We the indigenous people have permanently lost our primary source of living necessary for our survival. Yet laws in Nigeria place ownership of subsurface resources on the FG which is dominated by majority ethinicites where oil exploration is not carried out. There is dire need for amendment of the land use act. The indigenous people of the Niger Delta must own the resources within their territory. 8 Likes |

I feel bad for residents of Rivers state because they are probably at a high risk of developing various cancers due to the water, air and soil polutions caused by oil production. Only problem though, most cases will go undiagnosed and classified as natural deaths. 5 Likes |

iLoveAnambra:Our communities will never come back to its original state before the exploration oil. Which in turn means the livelihood of locals is gone forever. Yet the northern dominated fg owns the resources within our lands... The injustice is overwhelming. 3 Likes |
