This new centenary 100 naira note is rubbish. It gets mutilated and torn easily. The old one was far better. CBN should mop up the useless centenary note and reintroduce the old one.

You have a point there but currency notes are supposed to be removed in circulation after certain period of time and new ones released. When was the last time you saw new ones or are we supposed to continue pass old naira notes around indefinitely and still expecting them not to wear out and tear?

When I was younger and in the village, there was a First Bank branch close to our house, periodically, I will noticed some people are employed to sort out mutilated bank notes from good ones. The mutilated ones are then sent to the CBN who will then give the bank new notes. Why are banks not doing it again and why is CBN not dealing with any useless bank that refuses to do this?

My Zambia friends recently mock me and my country when he came visiting and unfortunately was repeatedly giving mutilated bank notes esp N100 on different occasions as balance for stuffs he bought. SMH for this country

Good question there. I learned that for every box of dirty, worn out and torn money sent to the CBN by the banks, there is certain amount of fee to be paid to CBN by commercial banks that sent it. And as you know with capitalists, everyone would naturally want to run away from extra costs. It is always about more profits. They are declaring increased profits every year, yet they kept sacking more and more workers.

Nigeria banks do reject money that are not counterfeit bro. The reason is that they know that other customers will not collect it from them and they themselves are not ready to send it to CBN for the reason I posted earlier.

These money can't be in circulation for ever. Some naira notes are so dirty that you will be afraid of contracting diseases by handling them because they have been in circulation far more than they are supposed to be.

Nothing work here and that's why paper money printed over five years ago won't leave circulation for new ones.
And most especially, lower denominations are supposed to be changed frequently because they are passed around more frequently and are expected to wear and tear more frequently.

CBN wants these dirty currencies sorted before receiving them from banks. Banks incur fees for not sorting them when returning them to CBN. The process of sorting these dirty and mutilated cash is manual and Labour intensive. And banks aren't ready to employ more staffs for an unproductive activity. So they prefer putting the dirty cash back into circulation.
