Waiting On Kemi by EgbechoFaith(f): 9:34pm On Mar 12, 2018
West ran to the door of his self-contained room to re-invigilate his handiwork 30minutes ago. He was looking, starring, watching until he saw one of the bed sheet’s ears not properly tucked into the bed. He ran to correct it and returned to his watchdog position. Nodding his head, he affirmed satisfaction within himself before a brief rehearsal. ‘How do I put it now? Welcome to my humble aboard Kemi. No. That’s so cliché. Welcome home Kemi…not good. OK. Hey I’m glad you came. No. Add a little romance. Hey. Kemi honey. Welcome hon. How was lectures. Aaaargh” he yipped and threw his head back. It banged on the hard door frame, straight into his medulla. That hard core pain. West squeezed into a corner rubbing the spot vigorously.
The pain seemed endless.

Gently he strolled into his small kitchen and started arranging the food stuffs he bought. A carton of indomie, a loaf of Nibbles bread, one long bottle of Ribena, half crate of egg, a bottle of groundnut and palm oil. He had every other kitchen needs that his mother had packed for him for his new home. It was his second year in school and his Mother and Step-Father just consented to his off campus freedom. Just one year into his course, he was already tired of the corny hostel boys so he demanded his own privacy.
Another good news was having a quality and noiseless time with his best friend, his girlfriend Kemi. They made plans for her to arrive on Friday and enjoy the weekend together but they would attend his own church on Sunday. In his mind, he called her Sparkles. She was dark with round white eyeballs that sparkled whether she was laughing or crying.
She was petite, pretty and feeble in every of her action and all he wanted to do was join hands with her till they were out of life.
Kemi appeared to be his one time girlfriend that he believed to be his first and last.

She had visited him once, one month into renting his house but it was empty then and they only chatted, kissed and solved mathematics. He didn’t want the sex that moment either. Everything about them, he wanted to be structured and spontaneous including their first sexual collision.

Her lectures would be over at 4pm and within 30 minutes, she should arrive or rounding it off to 5pm. West was a Computer Science student highly programmed even to his foot steps and Kemi admired that. It was 4:10pm. West slid into the bathroom.

The moment got him nonplussed, he really needed water to resuscitate. As soon as the shower flashed on him, his nervousness produced an erection. ‘Not yet’ he complained and fed his hard with more water trying to jog out the anxiety. He kept jogging, striking poses and playing with the water but once Kemi’s face jumped into his memory. It will kick. ‘Oooh. What now’ He began singing, really really singing. The walls of the squared bathroom could feel his show. Water, soap, sponge and strength came together to wash him. He scrubbed fast as if taking a break will stop time. Anything at all was worth doing to keep his part of the fun real and fresh. ‘Will I tell her to go take her bath too? Uuuhm’ he pondered.
There he was programming again. ‘Oooohm!’ He let out a silky cry. The sponge fell. He quickly picked it up, rinsed it and placed his face directly under the shower. Maybe he was planning too much. He blew his mouth full of water, producing another kind of shower.

West recalled the few sex he had before with his friend’s sister and a girl during JAMB. They seemed like a beginners lectures to him besides he wasn’t in love, the big girls kept pressing him to them, maybe his oblong brown face was deceiving them.

Kemi wasn’t a dull girl either, she knew the deal and didn’t kick against watching porn movies with him few times at night classes.

West heard his door open fast, someone ran inside and fell on the floor. He dashed out to her shouting, “West. West!”

“Kemi.” He totally forgot his rehearsals. Kemi wasn’t looking alright. “Kemi. Why are you on the floor. What happened” he inquired adjusting the loose towel around his abdomen.

“They took my phone. They just took my phone down your street. Bad boys. My phone is gone West.” She cried.

What a bad omen.

She couldn’t control her worry and that got him blocked to a position for seconds before he regained his stand. Bad boys spoilt the moment. West locked the door, the bathroom door too and lifted her from the floor to bed. He served her head on his thighs and could say nothing but ‘Sorry. Sorry. That’s too bad but everything will be OK. It’s just a phone.’

“My files. Oh. West. Those guys were mean.”

“Sorry. I hope they didn’t touch.”

“They didn’t touch me but they hurt me. My phone just left me like that.”

“Sorry. Sorry. You will get another one” that didn’t sound right in his ears so he repeated, “you will get another. We will get another one.” He quickly remembered that You and I were not good for relationships as much as We and Us.

Kemi stood up and ran to the bathroom. With the sound of the urination he said, he knew she must have been shocked during the trauma.
West could think of nothing but how to make her feel better. When she got back. He took off her trouser and wore her one of his colourful shorts. He covered her properly and went to get her what she loved. Ribena!

Kemi smiled and jacked up immediately to drink. He saw plenty sparkles falling out of her eyes. She only smiled at him but refused to utter a word. West in turn knew how to read her thoughts even if they were written in Arabic. He threw her packed school bag into the ward rope and fell on the bed. The evening grew colder. West held unto her like he held the only pillow in his bed. They slept off.

Before he could fall asleep,.......
