The headline you shared began after bank of Canada went through the phase of raising interest for two years to curb inflation.

They are now slowly cutting after data shows the inflation has been tamed

The inflation in those economies was as a result of market forces, however the one in Nigeria was as a result of govt policy- removing subsidy; devaluing naira; floating the exchange rate & CBN printing trillions of cash that ended up in pocket of politicians rather than the economy. Now the western economies raised interest because there was too much cash in circulation & needed people to save funds in the bank which also offered high interest on savings. Now naija had none of that because the money in circulation is looted funds from politicians ( this is evidenced when funds in financial institutions is less than funds in the economy despite interest rates hike).
So the continual interest increase further increased prices making it virtually counterproductive, because when genuine bizmen absorbs this high interest, they pass on the cost to consumers.
