The Medical Director of St. John Specialist Hospital, Okota, Lagos, Dr Victor Unang has dragged his former auxiliary nurse, Juliet Nweke, 22, before a Lagos Magistrate Court for allegedly accusing him falsely of raping her and attempting to extort the sum of N3m from him.

Unang also accused the nurse of threatening to set his hospital ablaze if he failed to pay her the money within a reasonable time.

A police source said that the accused was arrested by the police at the Lion Building Division, Lagos Island following a complaint by Unang and charged before an Igbosere Magistrate Court on a five-count charge of felony to Wit.demanding money with menace, defamation of character, threatening to set Hospital ablaze and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

Police Counsel, Reuben Solomon informed the court in charge No M/14/2018 that the accused committed the offence in February 2018 in Lagos.

Solomon told the court that the complainant reported to the Police that shortly after he sacked the accused as auxiliary nurse in his hospital for wrongdoing, she started accusing him of raping her and threatening to set his hospital on fire if he fails to pay her the sum of N3m for the alleged false rape and for sacking her.

Solomon said that during the investigation, the police discovered that the accused fabricated all the allegations just to extort money from the complainant and to damage his hard-earned image and integrity.

He said that the offences the accused committed were punishable under sections 411, 301, 168(d) and 56(1)(a) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges in the open court, and Magistrate S.K Matepo granted her bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum, one of whom must be a blood relation with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

Matepo adjourned the case till 4 April, 2018 for mention and ordered that the defendant be kept at the Kirikiri Prison, Apapa, Lagos till she fulfilled the bail conditions.

Ladies now use false rape allegations as means to shame and exploit men.

Later, some of them will now be shouting feminism about.

They should sha jail her for some time abeg,

Some men are in prison for the wrong reasons because of people like this. They keep threatening men with either rape, kidnap just for their selfish interests.

Any gender found culpable of wrongly accusing the opposite sex especially in sensitive cases as these should be made to face the law squarely.
