... Governing Council To Meet With Parents

By: ADESOLA IKULAJOLU

In a meeting held with the newly inaugurated Governing Council, the Ajasin Varsity Students' Union has stood against the speculated tuition fee increase of 200,000 by the state government.

In a statement signed by the Union President, Comr.Ijanusi Olawale on Thursday, the meeting was closed-door and lasted for over Five hours.

It was learnt that the meeting was to seek a way forward on the proposed plan by the Ondo State Government to increase tuition in the institution.

Part of the statement read:
"In the meeting, we had a long-term discussion, which involved arguments, disagreements, understanding and other things of such, which majored on the basis that the school fee should not be increased."

However, in the heat of discussion, it was said that Governor Rotimi Akeredolu is proposing a fee not less than Two Hundred Thousand (200,000). It was also revealed in the statement that the Union vehemently stood against it.

"In the meantime, we have been made to realize, by this meeting, that the Governor in person of Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu only entertains a proposition of a minimum of Two Hundred Thousand Naira (#200,000), which the Students Union leaders frankly disagreed with," the statement reads.

After serious deliberation, the Governing Council accepted the stand of the Union and made known its intention to relay it to the Governor.

Also, the Council headed by the Pro-Chancellor, Dr.Tunji Abayomi also made it known that he and his members would meet with the parents to discuss the issue.

According to the statement, "... the Pro Chancellor/ Chairman Governing Council concluded that he would meet with the Governor, and relate our position and plea with him."
"Also he added that the Governing Council will be having a meeting with parents on Thursday, 22nd of March 2018 at the university Obasanjo Multipurpose Hall. 11am."

In its stand against the proposed plan, the Union has remained unshaking and unrelenting.

The Union however "... implore all students of Adekunle Ajasin University to continue with trusting the capability and powerof unity in our decision as we all stand together on the fact that our school fee needs no increment."
