Over 500 BTC Belonging to Iranians Seized by US Government: Report

According to the head of Iran’s Blockchain Association, over 500 BTC belonging to Iranians were confiscated by the U.S. government last year, and the number is still rising. He make clear that Iranians are unable to take action through suitable channels from within their country due to Iran’s legal status of cryptocurrency.

He admitted that the accurate number of confiscated BTC “is not clear, but it is expected to be over 500 bitcoins, worth approximately 25 billion tomans ($5.77 million)” at the time, the publication quoted him.

“Some people believe that this confiscation is because bitcoin owners were circumventing U.S. sanctions,” Mohammadi added.

Currently, news.Bitcoin.com reported that the government of Iran is considering using cryptocurrencies to stop long-held U.S. economic sanctions. Mohammad Reza Pour-Ebrahimi, the chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s Economic Commission, said in an interview with Mizan news agency on July 15 that digital currencies are among the major mechanisms that Iran can use to the evade the sanctions. He noted that the Iranian parliament will soon discuss this issue.

US presidential candidate, Andrew Yang (D), has made known that his campaign for the 2020 election is now accepting cryptocurrency donations. Also in the Daily, Chinese social network, Tianya, is about to issue a native token, and the Kickico project has been hacked – resulting in the loss of $7.7 million USD worth of tokens due to a security breach of its smart contract.

US Democrat Andrew Yang’s campaign is now accepting donations in Bitcoin Core (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and other cryptocurrencies for the 2020 US presidential election. Yang made this known on Twitter calling on his supporters to “build the future together.”

Largest Cannabis Community Market in Israel to Accept Bitcoin Payments

Before it was turned into an investment asset, the invention of Bitcoin pledged to usher in a world where anyone can pay for anything they like without a need for getting prior authorization from the powers that be. The demand for uncensorable transactions still exists, and the biggest example of this comes from Israel where the biggest cannabis community market has turned to bitcoin payments.

Telegrass, an Israeli community-based cannabis marketplace with over 100,000 members, has made known earlier today on social media that it will start charging merchants for some services, offering discounts for bitcoin payments. The community works to promote the legalization of recreational use of cannabis in Israel and offers a platform to connect buyers and sellers via the Telegram network. Merchants can still list their products for free in one city but will have to pay in order to extend their coverage.

China Releases Ranking of 31 Crypto Projects

China’s Center for Information Industry Development has released its third ranking of crypto projects. Out of 31 projects, EOS remains at the top of the list while both Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash have improved  a little from the former month.

The Center for Information Industry Development (CCID), under China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, officially released its third crypto project ranking last week. The new list consists of 31 crypto projects.

The center began ranking 28 crypto projects in May. The following month it added 2 more projects: EOS and Nebulas. This month, one more is added, making a total of 31 crypto projects on the list. Gxchain is the most recent addition.

The wide adoption of cryptocurrencies in Russia has been put on hold after the State Duma postponed the final reading of three crypto bills for its fall session. However, Russian companies are already planning to make known crypto payments as soon as the regulations are in place. Among them, a major car dealer and an international pizza chain. Also in The Daily, the governor of Jeju has received support from Bitcoin.com for his efforts to create a Crypto Valley on the island. And while the South Korean province hopes to become a crypto and blockchain hub in Asia, major European banks have chose to base their blockchain initiative in Dublin.

One of Russia’s major car dealers, Avtospetscenter (ASC), has admitted it intends to start selling automobiles for digital money. “We are thinking of selling cars for cryptocurrency. The idea is under development. If there are no barriers in the legislation, ASC will start selling cars and providing crypto services by 2020 – 2021,” Andrey Turkin, general manager of ASC’s subsidiary Audi Center Taganka, said quoted by Bits Media.
