South African kid suffers Myiasis infection after wearing a cloth without ironing it

A man identified by his username @EricanM, has taken to social media to share a rather horrible experienced of a child who suffered from Myiasis infection. According to his post, the clothes were aired to dry under the sun and later worn on the child. Unbeknownst to them, an insect had laid eggs on the clothes and due to the fact that the clothes weren't ironed, the eggs soon latched onto the body of the child.

Sharing photos of the end result of the infection, he wrote:

"These worms are from clothing that was aired to dry on the line & not ironed thereafter. Apparently some insect lays such eggs on the clothing then when zu do not iron the eggs hatch on U & become those worms. Lets iron those clothes, even the briefs & ."

Myiasis is the parasitic infestation of the body of a live mammal by fly larvae (maggots) that grow inside the host while feeding on its tissue.

Although flies are most commonly attracted to open wounds and urine- or feces-soaked fur, some species can create an infestation even on unbroken skin and have been known to use moist soil and non-myiatic flies (such as the common housefly) as vector agents for their parasitic larvae.
