I promised i wouldn't mess up this thread cos its not a debate bout religion but meant to be informative. If u think u aren't attacking then think again. Since u can't read , well i state it again, Jesus isn't a diety. If u say u don't give a rats ass bout ppls beliefs, then why are u defending cos i don't get it why not read and ignore. And moreover who's hating |

Olorididan: not too sure but i think it means, 'please do not put a curse on her' or 'Please don't place a curse on her' (yoruba translation). |
Re: Ifa - The True Religion Of The Yorubas? by anton(m): 7:02pm On Jan 14, 2006 |
That's funny. Thinks i'll put that in my cutnpaste arsenal. How would one say 'please do not put a curse on him' or 'them'? |
Re: Ifa - The True Religion Of The Yorubas? by ijebuman(m): 7:12pm On Jan 14, 2006 |

Re: Ifa - The True Religion Of The Yorubas? by joftech(m): 9:04pm On Jan 14, 2006 |
I think i got a better translation of that: It translates to "Don't abuse by talking endlessly to someone." (It's usually used to check a younger person from dissing an elderly person) |

MAKE UNA GO AHEAD DEY MOCK EACH OTHER WEY NO SUPPORT UNA SHARED VIEWS, SO WHAT IF JESUS CHRIST WAS MINISTERED TO US BY MAJORITY CAUCASIANS, & COME TO THINK OF IT, ARABS & JEWS HAVE LIGHT-TONES SKIN JUST LIKE CAUCASIANS( EVEN THOUGH THERE MAYBE A FEW COLORED ONES AMONG THEM). NOBODY SOLD U ANY CHRISTIAN RELIGION, & IT IS NOT A WHITEMAN'S RELIGION EITHER. IFA WORSHIP IS AN INDEGINEOUS RELIGION & WITH STRONG BASE IN META-PHYSICS, & OTHER FORMS OF ASTRA-KNOWLEDGE. MAKE UNA CARRY UNA IFA WORSHIP DEY WAKA UNA OWN WAY, & NO COME HIA COME CHALLENGE OUR ROOTS IN THE CHRISTIAN RELIGION. LOOK TOWARDS AREA THAT PRACTICE SUCH RELIGIONS AS THEIR NATIONAL RELIGION: HAITI, BENIN REPUBLIC & I THINK TOGO, & TELL ME WHAT U THINK, |

Religion will never solve the worlds problems because it was NEVER meant to solve the worlds problems. It is a personal thing. Religion is meant to solve YOUR problems. So whatever works for you, If Ifa worship brings you peace, so be it. If atheism is what you choose and it brings you peace, then worship in the enlightment that you think you have. If Christ is whom you choose, all well and good. Some day, we will all know the truth, and maybe, we will never, maybe the agnostics are right, who knows? God knows, but is there a God? Who knows?, God knows! |

The Yorubas have the enslaved Africans and their descendents in the African dispora for saving their religion and bringing it to the world. I believe very little influence have come from present day Yorubas. It is the black Americans(Orisha-Vodoo), the Cubans(Lucumi), the African Latinas(Santeria) have made the belief system known and popular. Each group has created their own version that speaks specifically to their existence in the Americas. Yes there are even some Ifa worshippers. I have never met a Yoruba who had anything good to say about their traditional religion. They usually jump on the band wagon once they know it is known and popular outside of the African continent by non-Africans(African descendents though). You definitely need to thank the African disapora. Because this is where the source lies. |

You are very right. I am from IFA family of Awodiope. My father's name is FATOKUN this name was changed to Francis by the missionary. We were thought BIBLE and told that Ifa worship is Idolatry. We were given status of JESUS in place. Now I knew nothing about IFA as my father knew, attempt to learn more was met with resistance from fellowship members as backsliding. CHURCH ! Modern slavery you will say was responsible. |

BigSis said: I have never met a Yoruba who had anything good to say about their traditional religion. They usually jump on the band wagon once they know it is known and popular outside of the African continent by non-Africans (African descendents though). Blame it on the British colonialists' brainwashing machine. The brainwashing of Africans by the colonialists was more or less total. They did a fantastic job on us. |

I wonder where Ifa and the other pantheon of gods were when the whiteman was looting and enslaving the people all over the shores of West Africa. I agree there is much to learn of yoruba history and culture from Ifa, but to now adopt the ways that only resulted in the enslavement of our ancestors is pure foolishness. Seek the living God !! can someone help me out on this topic https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-359964.0.html#msg5036358 |

Its a pity that some people here don't know anything about Ifa religion and talk about it. what you dont know is bigger than you, our fore father were make to believe that they are idol worshipers. if we are to define it bucolically, those that put on cross on the neck, believing that they will get protection from that cross are also idol worshipers. Ifa is a religion of peace that talk about Jesus(Ela) his mother(Mary) Oyigi and setiu and mo-hammed. |

Hi Guys, We should not deviate from the topic, Re: Ifa - The True Religion Of The Yorubas?. I as an individual disagree with that, for i know that Ifa is just one of the deities of the Yoruba religion. The Traditional religion has five structure as follows 1. The belief in God where we find the glorious name of Olodumare. 2. the belief in divinities, where you find the likes of Ifa, Esu, sonponna, Osanyin etc. 3. The belief in Spirit being like iwin. 4. The belief in Ancestors where our Oduduwa and their Abraham comes in, 5. lastly the belief in magic and medicine which we all know exist here in our daily life. So the question whether Ifa worshiping is the totality of the Yoruba religion should never occur because the real Yooobas who are adherent of this old faith sees it as the most sophisticated religion that ever emanated from the race as a whole, so, calling it Ifa minced it. So you guys who are looking for salvation from a foreign god should try to learn about this faith of our fore bears instead of thinking there is a replacement in Christianity or Islam. We believers of this old faith still appreciate all that came with theses foreign religions but we still know that ours is not a religion of the book. All of you should know that black is beautiful and is the colour of OLODUMARE, so what if they paint Jesus green.as far as is okay church business. 1 Like |

Hi guys, For more enlightenment on Ifa, shop for Odu Corpus written by Prof Wande abimbola and search for OLODUMARE The GOD in Yoruba beliefs written By Prof Bolaji Idowu to expose you to the Yooooooba religious beliefs. The need to know should be the driving force not just to turn Nairaland forum to upcoming pastors's altar. The blackpriests are in the making too. Watch out. 2 Likes |

lannre: Make your governors and all public officials swear by Ogun, Sonponna and Sango during their swearing in ceremony. Give them a good Sigidi to hold whole swearing and place it on each of their tables as a reminder, they must pour libation to it every morning. They must touch their pen to the Sigidi and strike it on their foreheads before signing government checks, contracts or laws. Do those things and more, and you will reduce corruption and looting, thereby improving your economy. Trust me, they respect and fear their ancestor's beliefs more than Oyinbo religion, most of them will act right! 1 Like 1 Share |
